okay just finished it.. looks like i have a working disc, couldn't be happier i dont see a UPC code on the front of the disc but i flipped it and this is the number on the back of the disc BVDL-4258600B1

ahh no headache for me!
The upc code is on the back of the case, top right. It is a twelve digit number. The first and last numbers are to the left and right of the bar code. There are two groups of 5 numbers between the left and right numbers. This is the upc code for the 2012 release: http://www.upcdatabase.com/item/043396409576

Interesting. I remember seeing a post that indicated the replacement disk would have a new UPC. Seems you have the same disk you returned. No firmware update to your player in the last few days, right?

heres the information everybody
they basically told me yesterday to just switch to the PCM track and I sent them a email thanking them for their lack of good customer service.
They made a bad disc, they need to replace it.

Sony CS rep told me that a new disc would have different UPC...she just didn't know what it would be. Interesting that nolfoc was able to play his disk w/o problems this time. My replacement disc was problematic like the first one.

Has anyone other than nolfoc been able to play a replacement disk from Sony without dropouts while bitstreaming from their player?

Default No Audio Dropouts Here . . .

The "Brave", "Finding Nemo" & "Total Recall" (2012) blu-ray titles have all played perfectly on my system right off the retail shelves - with excellent audio quality and absolutely no dropouts. This is leaving everything set the way it always is (bitstreaming all audio codecs via hdmi to my receiver for decoding there). The receiver lights up the Dolby TrueHD indicator and proceeds happily along its way with no troubles. The equipment in my primary home theater system uses a Sony BDP-S1000ES blu-ray player bitstreaming to a Yamaha RX-V3900.

Since the dropouts aren't at specific reproducible times, is it possible nolfoc just had a lucky playthrough? I.e. dropouts might occur if he tried again?

It doesn't make any sense that only he would get a fixed disc.

From what I have read, the BDP-S1000ES does not have Cinavia. I believe that may have some relevance to the drop out problem.

Possibly. There have been reports that there is a correlation between the M2TS branch transition points and the drop outs on Brave. When they occur, they occur at a branch transistion.

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1439786/di...#post_22780507

If someone wants to check the drop out times against the M2TS (branches) file start/end times, you can find the data for Total Recall here:

Either way - whatever the issue with the newest version of TrueHD and bitstreaming is, it needs to be resolved through firmware. Clearly the audio track is fully present without glitches since it can be internally decoded perfectly. Just when bitstreamed, something is tripping it up, and that bug needs to be identified and fixed.
I have a vague recollection of reading that the reason most blus were being authored with DTS HD-MA was that it worked well with seamless branching whereas TrueHD had some issues. Apparently either Sony didn't get the memo, or it's back to the drawing board.

(Anybody else remember reading something along those lines?)

oh, and switching audio's settings didn't work either or my Oppo's players firmware upgrade still didn't fix.
Hm, mine played okay (PCM/Oppo), though I (re-)started about 40 minutes in after giving up on the Panasonic. I might give it another shot in the next few weeks, from the beginning this time.

"Dolby stated that the work flow for titles with TrueHD and seamless branching had difficulties, which pushed some studios to use DTS-HD Master Audio for certain titles at least."

That is true - the Sony BDP-S1000ES remains cinavia free through the latest firmware (#14). I wasn't aware the problem folks are reporting regarding audio dropouts were related to cinavia. I realize the lossless audio in Total Recall has been corrupted with cinavia audio signals, but I thought Brave and Finding Nemo retained their clean and pristine lossless audio tracks.

I checked a list of BDs with the Cinavia 'watermark'. You're right Brave and Finding Nemo were not on it. So Cinavia can be ruled out as part of this problem. Cinavia DRM may have some long term negative impact on Blu-ray. One of the most comprehensive articles I have read on the subject: http://www.anandtech.com/show/5693/c...fdestruction/3
