in the end it is all based on your personal preference
I like the new Sonys but I'm a Samsung guy and I have been backing their TVs for around 5 years now and wouldn't think of going to another brand (even though the Sharp Aquos are quite tempting ![]() |

Go to the stores and look at calibrated TVs. compare them. Check the specs. usually they are comparable. remember that the color, brightness, sharpness, density, contrast, etc. can all be adjusted and calibrated and if you are not comparing calibrated monitors, do not look at these features.
I highly recommend calibrating your TV when you get one. |

I was almost considering an Aquos for the price because they are a really good bang for the buck (and in my price range)....but then I found my 40" Sammy advertised on www.outpost.com for $1,099 and I actually got Best Buy to price match it. It was a wonderful day
![]() Personally if I were you I would go to a BB, CC, or where ever and look at the TVs yourself and you be the judge of what you want. Just make sure they are hooked directly to a blu-ray player and if they are not then request that they do so you can see a better idea of what it will look like at home....might have to calibrate it yourself though to make it just right. |

The difference between brand names really depends on the model/size of TV being considered.
For large LCD-TVs, I think Sony is currently leading that group with its XBR4/5 series Bravia TVs. I bought a 52" XBR4 model during Super Bowl weekend. It's an outstanding TV. Great specifications, 120Hz & true 24p cinema support. The TV even has a menu system very similar to the Xross menu system in Playstation 3. The only TVs I've seen whose picture quality looked any better were significantly more expensive plasma monitors like the Pioneer 60" Kuro. |

They're both awesome. Choose the one your ears and eyes are lured to most as you compare them side by side in the store. Either one you end up choosing is a winner.

I like Sony TV's, never had much luck with Samsung products in general, but that's just me.
Either manuafacturer should be fine. You need to look at them yourself and factor in cost, reviews, looks, specs, warranty, etc.......in the end it's your money. |

Actually it's my mistake. A certain worker of mine was sitting here watching me type on the forum and he started telling me of it. I typed it in but then decided to investigate for myself and found it to be untrue. He is now fired and I learned to check my sources better. |

I originally wanted the XBR4 until I went to Circuit City and compared the XBR4 to the Samsung 71 series. The picture was great on both, but the Samsung had produced better blacks. And as black levels were important to me, I picked up the Sammy.

Not sure how true is this but I read it somewhere that Sony does not make its own LCD panels. Samsung makes them for Sony and are build in South Korea and shipped to Japan and gets rigorous quality check.
