Post What is your favorite movie that is out of your "comfort zone"?

We all have our favorite genres.. I love sci-fi, horror and craptacular 80's movies for example. Is there a movie that you normally would not watch, that moved you in a surprising way? For instance....the movie for me is The Color Purple. The subject matter is not something I would normally find very interesting. But, the wife was watching it one night so I joined in. I became totally enthralled in the story...and yes a cried like a baby at the end.

So what movie did you find yourself loving that was out of your comfort zone?

Do you hate musicals, but find yourself singing "I Feel Pretty" in the shower?

Are you so high brow, that you are ashmed to admit you loved Dumb and Dumber?

You hate Star Wars, but loved Ememy Mine?

Unburden your soul and tell the world....

Recently I watched Lockout and totally enjoyed it! I'm usually not a fan of action popcorn flicks. Oh! And I usually despise family dramas, but Crazy Stupid Love was cool.

Coraline isn't exactly outside my comfort zone but it's not the kind of thing I would have expected to be completely and totally captivated by either. And I would have never expected it to get better every time I watch it.

There's just something about it though...

I guess to more accurately respond to this thread, the "All-Time Favorite" winner in this category would go to Once.

I don't think there is really anything outside if my comfort zone, I'm happy with any film really as long as it's good.

I'm not a fan of romcoms that much, but Roman Holiday is a favorite of mine.

If it's any consolation, I've always liked Cats and Dogs.

Moderator, please remove this user! Joking, joking...

Probably the romcoms I like for me;

My Best Friend's Wedding
Sliding Doors
One Fine Day
Sleepless in Seattle

The rest of this genre does nothing for me. Even the films I mentioned feel the same as the others I've disliked, but it must be the performance or exectution or something in the above movies that I like. It's the music in My Best Friend's Wedding, I know that...

I'm not a romantic comedy guy. But I love almost all of Woody Allen's films (including the romantic comedies). I guess that's not just one film, but whatever.

I don't like romance or romantic drama, but The Notebook was great. I'm not a Sci-Fi fan, either...but i've always loved Blade Runner and Starship Troopers.

The Last Temptation of Christ. I'm usually indifferent to Biblical epics.

I'm the same way, movies in general are my comfort zone, regardless of the genre.

Not a big fan at all of musicals, but have seen the original The Music Man and Fiddler on the Roof and really enjoyed both. Also, don't really like RomComs or whatever, but consider For Love of the Game and Love Actually two of my favorites.

im not too big on live musicals but Les Miserables(2012) really blew me away. For me, it was such an emotionally driven, powerful epic movie.

Go see a stage production sometime... wow!

I've been trying hard to think of something to add to the thread and I just can't seem to pinpoint anything.
