The Lion King-The first movie I remember seeing it theaters. Still love it to this day.

Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: The Movie-Absolutely loved the show as a kid and remember being even more excited because they were coming out with a movie.

Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope-Let me explain myself before I get some funny looks. I remember them deciding to re-release Episode IV back into theaters in 1997. By then I had I had worn out our VHS tapes, but was still in awe to see Star Wars on the big screen.

Tarzan-My mom has never really been a movie person, but I remember all of us going to go see this one and enjoying it.

I don't have a movie that defines my childhood. I have a movie that sort of killed the innocence of my childhood. It's also my favorite movie of all time.

July 22, 1989, I'm 10 years old. My father asked if I wanted to go to the movies. I'd been begging him for about a month to see Batman. This is it, finally the day. We get to the theater, he asks for two tickets to...Lethal Weapon 2. WTF!!! I don't wanna see this crap. I'm on the verge tears for real. I never even seen Lethal Weapon. Two hours later, I wanted to see it again.

This movie popped my rated R cherry. I never heard f**k so many times in my life, still. I blushed, smiled, closed one eye & felt a weird sensation when I saw Rika's rack. I feel in love with Rianne the moment I saw her & felt the ultimate betrayal she smiled at Riggs & broke up with her right there on the spot. I understood the condom jokes. I laughed at the beginning & cried at the end. For the longest time I was saying "they f**k you at the drive through" every time I went to Micky Ds with my friends & loving the fact only a few of them understood what I was talking about.

Star Wars. Me and my dumb friends ran around beating each other with sticks and making light saber sounds for a couple weeks afterwards.

and let's not forget 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' - even though Star Wars was fun - at age 8, CE3K had me transfixed

and for some reason me and my friends we were really siked to see 'Meatballs'

the original Bad News Bears was a draw for us kids.

This is the kind of story I created the thread for.

The Terminator

I was in grade school when my mom let me watch this, it was the first rated-R movie I've seen. She fast-farwarded through the sex scene with Linda Hamilton and Michael Biehn, but other than that I got to watch the whole movie... on a recorded VHS.

It was epic! I couldn't stop thinking about how cool the movie was after I watched it.

Never seen any $h*t like dat before lol

EDIT - didn't see in theatres but thought i'd mention.

Star Wars and I was 8 as well - saw Smokey and the Bandit the same summer and I would have to say that has just as great an impact - pretending to be the bandit on my bike tearing trough the neighborhood .

this sounds bad but i never saw anything in the theatre that i can remember until i was 16 and saw Under Seige. Mom and dad took us to the drive in when we were little kids but there was no theatre near us and with 4 kids, we didn't go out to see a lot of movies - we rented. But i can remember when Back to the Future came out and that was always a guage for me on how old someone was.

All of these listed are the original theatrical release.

The Empire Strikes Back...I was only one when Star Wars came out, I did 'see' it with my parents at the drive in. But I do remember seeing The Empire Strikes Back in the drive-in. I was in awe of Vader and when the part came up where he told Luke he was his dad, I was in shock for weeks!

Aliens, My dad had Alien on LD when I was little and I managed to sneak a peek at the movie without my parents knowing. Instantly I was scared sh!tless of that Alien. Fast forward to 1986 and I was really into Alien, so I begged my dad to see the movie everyday the Aliens preview came on the TV. Against my mothers wishes we went as a family to go see Aliens. This was probably the first movie I remember where I was glued to the screen and everyone in the theater was quiet (before cell phones ha!). That was until Ripley came out in the loader during the last part of the film and the crowd cheered!

E.T. This movie had some many moments in it. But most importantly it was my first movie that I actually cried, because I thought E.T. was going to die with Elliot. Luckily the film didn't end that way lol.

Poltergeist Ok this movie scared me but in a good way because it was my introduction into horror/ghost story movies. I also related to the movie because I lived in a neighborhood in CA, just like the family in the film. Movie still has an effect for being creepy/scary and horrifying all at once, it still delivers great story telling.

The Right Stuff This was probably the only movie I have seen that actually had an intermission during the film. This film made me admire the men that was first into space in the US. The movie kinda motivated me to join the Air Force and play with jets.

Robocop I conned my grandma (I know I was bad) to buy me tickets to this movie. She did not know it was rated-R and she dropped my cousin/I off at theater alone to enjoy the movie lol. It was the most visceral movie I have seen as a kid. It showed me that the future was not always bright, clean and good.

Tron/The Last Starfighter Both of these films wowed me what computers can do for effects and the story telling. Plus these movies just looked different compared to other movies during those years.

White Fang (1991) is the very first live-action movie I saw in theatres. I was 10 years old and it made a huge impression on me. The screen was huge, the sound was louder than ever before and I was absorbed in the movie. The scene where Ethan Hawke was in front of the big white mountain and he got under the ice was a nail-biting moment. And ofcours, my first cry in theatres, when -after all they went through- he had to send the dog away by shouting.

Jurassic Park (1993) and Free Willy (1993) wen I was 12 years old. The very first movies I was allowed to see on my own, with friends. JP was amazing on every level. Back then it was like nothing someone had seen before. It awakened my love for music written for movies. At that time I didn't even know you could actually buy that in stores, a soundtrack. When I got the VHS for my birthday, including Free Willy (stole my heart) there was a time I could watch them every day of the week.

My love for movies and big scènes with great music started earlier, since my parents went to the videostore every week. The first time I was actually aware of the amazing supporting combination of music and what happens on screen was The Rescuers Down Under (1990), the opening scène and Cody's flight, but that was on VHS. Those moments made me love movies.

For me it was

The Lord of the rings trilogy
The epicness, the sound of the theatre especially when the nazgul first appear with the screech! Ear piercing in the theatre.

Casino Royale

As a big James Bon fan as having all the films on VHS and DVD and obviously now blu ray! Having watched die another day as a 12 year old I was disappointed with the over use of cgi I was disappointed that my first bond film I was allowed to see in the cinema was this poor! 4 years later I see Daniel Craig as 007 stripped down no gadgets just after le chiffre and Eva green was my celeb crush lol!.

Spider-Man 1 & 2

Seeing one of my favourite comic book heroes come to the screen as a 12 year old was just mesmerising, finally adapting spidey affluent so many years in development hell was just the best summer ever lol! And number 2 was the best sequel IMO since T2.

also a special mention for batman begins redefining the batman franchise and making batman a real menace to criminals!
