I will probably buy the theatricles then get the Extended trilogy box set when its released years down the line.

However if i see the extended version and its well packaged i will likely crumble and triple dip this franchise. - I loved the movie much more than i expected too. I also thought the HFR 3D was incredible on the imax and most people said it was like watching a "soap opera"

I would watch emmerdale ,eastenders, corrie any day if they were as good looking as the hobbit lol

Damn it. I don't mind waiting for the product itself, it's just the idea of missing the full DoS preview stream.

I'd import too but it'll be one of the sets of blu-rays that I'll proudly display and be fickle about so I'd prefer them all to be UK releases. Plus I'm hoping we also get a combi pack (I'm sure we will with it being Warners) so I can send the DVD to my nephew - and a R1 version is no good to him.

Wont it be from EiV again? They handled Lord of the Rings.

No, not since Warners too over New Line. EiV still got their logo on the blu-rays of LOTR thanks to their existing contracts for the films but these will be solely Warners now - Entertainment had nothing to do with the theatrical release either.

I'll just do what I did with the LOTR DVDs. Skip the theatrical releases and get the extended editions with statues, if they do something similar.

I might wait until the extended trilogy boxset comes out, because I know that I am going to have to own the boxset. It seems a waste to buy the first two, and then they release boxsets.

I hope they don't release the Ultimate of Ultimate Lord of the Rings / Hobbit boxset.

In no major rush to buy it either. Happy to wait for extended edition no.1 and leave it at that!

It'll be available to import around the 8th no doubt, so by the time it arrives...almost a month early. I'll take that for an extra few quid.

If you are talking about the US edition then I think you may have your dates confused as it is not out there until March 19th. It is out in the UK on April 8th

US releases are usually available 2-3 weeks before release so not impossible for it to start shipping late Feb/early March.

Of course they will. I can see it being similar to the Harry Potter and Dark Knight Trilogy patterns - a 'regular' boxset when the final film is out on blu-ray that Christmas and an Ultimate Collector's Boxset with exclusive features, memorabilia and special packaging, the following autumn. And I expect that boxset will be the whole Middle-Earth saga.

Still, that'll be for the hardcore fans. At least with the theatrical and Extended Edition boxsets they'll be choices for every level of fan and price.

Potential cover art up on Amazon? If they're real it looks as if we're just getting the poster... although I prefer that to what the US have got.

Large versions of the cover art:

Regular Edition -

[Show spoiler]

3D Edition -

I like it - the US image is great but I liked the simplicity of the poster art. And our 3D one is wonderful. Considering the US forum seems to be complaining that their 3D one doesn't feature the hobbit of The Hobbit, at least ours got that right.

EDIT: Steelbook artwork -
