Default Cable vs Direct TV /Dish

I am currently with Charter cable and I am thinking about switching to Satellite. How is Direct TV/Dish's HD quality compared to cable?

TIA

I just had Direct TV installed yesterday after having Centurylinks Prism service for 2 years. The picture on Direct TV is far superior to the bad Prism service I had. Prior to Prism I had Dish Network for 2 years and was very happy with that. I went with Direct TV as they handle the best bundle deal for me. Choice Xtra (200+ channels, many HD), local & long distance home phone and 10mbs of internet for $130 a month for 3 years.

I've been with dtv for about 5 years. I like the picture quality. Their automated system sucks. I would give them a B-. But my cable company is a D. I would give dtv a A if I had all my local channels in HD. I live in Alaska so of course it's different.

I've had Directv for the past 15 years (kept through several moves) and have been very happy with the service. With that said we are cutting the cord (or maybe blocking the signal ) here this month. Don't really watch it enough for the $100 plus a month price. I would recommend it though if you are looking for a tv service.

DirecTV is definitely the best out there in my opinion. Their HD is second to none, and they have NFL Sunday Ticket. Verizon Fios would be a close second. I have not had good experiences with Comcast, and could not ever recommend them to anyone.

I wish I had DirecTV. You can really see crappy HD on a 108" screen.

Comcast, with a HD box, DVR box, Showtime, HBO and 30Mbps Internet is ~$135 a month . I'd be too much more for DirecTV.

I have Directv and my parents have DISH, both I and my parents now that they've had Dish prefer Directv. The menu system on Directv is so much easier to navigate and the channel duplication(3 or 4 version of the same channel on Dish compared to 2) is no where near as bad.

Why no switch it up, call DirecTV see how much a month it would be for what you have with Comcast TV wise. Call Comcast and ask how much it is for the internet only or internet and phone. Its what I did, I pay 45 to Comcast for Internet and Phone 20mb service that's all you really need, and I pay for DirecTV 200 channel package no premium channels as they are pretty worthless. Think I pay 125 total a month so that's not to bad.

Been with Directv since 1998. Their HD PQ is outstanding AQ (DD) is also very good. My only complaint is the DVR, it's sometimes very slow to respond to the remote. Drives me nuts some times but the PQ makes it worth it IMO.

Which DVR do you have, cause some of the older models HR20/21 had issues with the menu and response times, I have the genie the hr34 now and it runs fantastic

We have had DirectTV for about a year, switched from Suddenlink, and absolutely love it.
