Amazon soon to start charging sales tax to Connecticut residents starting Nov 1 6.35%

curious to know for others that dealt with this did you feel yourself shopping less at Amazon?

We have 21% sales taxes.
And the Euro is worth more than the US dollar.
6.35% is nothing !

i get charged tax on itunes as well, so it's no big thing for me.

Well, when it comes to Blu-Rays AMZ doesn't care to be the low price leader. So I rather get my stuff at BBY. But for other things, they are definitely my first route.

AMZ does do random price drops which is nice as well. And if you have an Amazon Rewards cards your almost guarantee to spend that credit each month. For me at least...

Pennsylvania started doing this a few months ago. It hasn't effected my Amazon shopping at all.

Yeah I shop way less now, since they started charging sales tax for California. Was the point now, when they most of the time price matching other sale prices. The only time I order from them now, is when my BBY is out of stock of a item I want.

still no tax in Wisconsin, and i hope that doesn't change soon

most of my purchases on amazon these days are mp3 downloads and since itunes foolishly decides to already have higher prices and now tax added on, if wisconsin does add sales tax to amazon purchases i'm sure it won't stop be from buying there. amazon is still the best and i don't see anyone on the horizon coming in to stop them.

Well it seems the reason for this might be CT made Amazon a huge tax deal as they will be building a warehouse here for about 300 workers.. which has to be on the small side.. but CT I think says with people not reporting internet sales for tax time they are out of something like near $1 billion a year..

Still Amazon has a lot of stuff not sold at local stores.

Amazon has made deals with most of the states by now. If your particular state hasn't started charging tax on Amazon purchases, it is only a matter of time. Now that Amazon has a competitive disadvantage against other Internet-only retailers, they've actually started lobbying for a national law for Internet taxation.

Here in Kansas we've paid Amazon taxes for as long as I can remember. All it means is you just treat them like any other retailer--if price+tax+shipping is lower than a local brick and mortar I go with Amazon. Otherwise I go with the local store.

This sucks. I live in NYC and order stuff from Amazon and ship it to my mother's house in CT. I don't know if I will be doing this anymore.

Yep, they have a facility down in SE KS somewhere. Usually around the same price or a little lower with tax, and with Prime shipping and Amazon Mom most of my shopping is done with them.

Remember that Amazon isn't charging sales tax, they are collecting the taxes on behalf of your state government.

I honestly think it's a good idea to start taxing as that pumps money into the states that wasn't there before. Just yesterday I was paying for 5 video games, preorders but paying in full, and instead of do it through amazon, i paid 18 dollars in taxes and did it at a local store. There's a bigger benefit from me paying those taxes than not, so although so small, it helped just a lil bit

I think I've always been charged tax on my Amazon orders because most of the time, the order is fulfilled by the distribution center here in Lexington.

BBY is price matching Amazon and other retailers. There's no reason for me to pay tax + shipping @ Amazon if i want to buy something under 25. I stopped buying from Amazon a while ago!

Indeed. Best move Best Buy has ever made. They were sick of serving as Amazon's showroom so now they're turning the tables. I helped my dad shop for TVs last week. Normally I would have advised him to just buy it from Amazon but with Best Buy's price match, 60 day price protection window and free delivery (2 days) it was a no-brainer. When I purchase a ZT60 later this year it will be from a Best Buy.
