Default Does anybody buy a BD just because of packaging?

Does anyone else buy a Blu just because they like the packaging? I did this recently with Peter Pan. I probably will never watch it but I just love the packaging for it.

Only if I'm half way interested in the movie. I might get Man with the Iron Fist because of the packaging, but I'm somewhat intersterested in it.

I think it can pique your interest enough to buy it.

No, not really. If I had to choose between buying a movie I enjoy with bad packaging and a movie I don't enjoy with great packaging, I would choose the former.

I've only done it for Target's The Dark Knight Rises exclusive. It look really sweet next to the Best Buy steelbook.

Edit: but I didn't get it just because it looked cool. I loved the movie so that was the deciding factor.

I've been tempted, but I don't think I've ever done it in the end. I buy for the film itself. And I never blind-buy.

If I'm already interested in a certain title, I might opt to buy it from a specific retailer over a different retailer because of exclusive packaging, but I'd never buy a title that I have no interest in just for the packaging alone.

99% of this forum, apparently.

"Does it have a slip?"

"Any word of a slip"

"Steelbook!"

"Digibook!"

"Blah, blah, blah!"

I think sometimes we are all guilty of that. I know I'm definitely guilty of it. The thing that matters though is if I'd watch it more than once. If I know that the movie is bad, but enjoy to watch it and it has pretty packaging...well damn I'm a sucker

I probably wouldn't have given the new Total Recall a shot without the metal case.

I ended up liking it. The extended cut anyway. Not saying it's a great movie, but I liked it enough I'll revisit it again in the future.

Yeah I did for Hobo With a Shotgun and Piranha. I hate those movies but the slipcovers that they came with (up here in Canada) were awesome that I just had to get them.

Also I guess the same would apply for steelbooks that I bought when I already owned another copy of the movie. This would include the Piranha steelbook, the Equilibrium steelbook, and the Sin City steelbook. Though the difference with the last two movies is that I actually like them.

Never. I might have second thoughts on an average movie with poor packaging (e.g., a case that is problematic in removing the discs, but even that can be fixed by printing new covers and putting them in blank cases). My primary thought is if the movie is something that my family or I will watch. I am concerned about the contents of the packaging, not the packaging itself.

To paraphrase a Bible verse, 'Do not look on its appearance or the collectables in the wrapper, because I have rejected it. For I see not as others see: they look on the outward appearance, but I look at the movie.'
