United Kingdom Liberal Arts - 25th February 2013

Anyone pre-ordered this? I'm a fan of Elizabeth Olsen & Josh Radnor so fingers crossed i like it. I pre-ordered from Zavvi £11.95

I saw this in cinemas and thought it was pretty bad, it's fairly obvious Radnor is a first time director from the strangeness of some of the shots and the characters weren't really that likeable, Allison Janney is great but only in the film for about five minutes unfortunately!

Only being picky for the sake of it but this was his second film. His first - Happythankyoumoreplease - never got a UK release though.

I enjoyed Liberal Arts much more than I thought I would. It wasn't the story I thought it would be going by the trailers. Instead I found it much more intelligent than it seemed to be - not overwhelmingly so at all but it at least looked like it had something to say about the maturing process and accepting the point you're at in life. There are some moments and choices that don't land for me (Zac Efron's character for example) but I was impressed that it was a more honest film than the cliched rom-com silliness that the marketing made it out to be.

Oh really? I was sure I remembered this being billed as his directorial debut, but obviously I just made that up haha

I've pre-ordered it too as the reviews on theatrical release were very favourable.

Annoying that the release date has slipped though. This was supposed to have shipped last week according to the release date when I pre-ordered it. Seems to be happening more and more these days.

It's been shunted twice now. First from beginning of February to the end ... and now July. Have a horrid feeling it's not going to see the light of day. Shame as I was looking forward to it.

Unhappy

This could have something to do with the push back:

Quote:
EXCLUSIVE: Several sources tell Deadline that UK distributor Revolver Entertainment is on the verge of going out of business with the fate of films on its release slate uncertain at the moment. Word making the rounds in Berlin and London is that the company may not exist in as little as two weeks, and chances of a turnaround are slim. Revolver has shed staff in recent months and key execs Nick Taussig and Paul Van Carter left to form their own outfit, Salon, last week. Calls to the company’s CEO were not immediately returned.
Should this happen you almost certainly won't get a BD release (it's too obscure a title, and it didn't do that well). And according to the information of this site, the IFC Films release IS region A locked

Thanks for that - an interesting read.

Wonder what will happen to the film now? As it stands it is a Picturehouse Entertainment release (they used Revolver and their resources for the physical media side of their distributions) and their website still has the vague 'coming soon' title on it. I imagine it will be released eventually, Picturehouse just need time to find a new physical media distributor to partner with. They have, if I recall correctly, a good relationship with Optimum so it's a possibility the title may end up there.

Picturehouse Entertainment do have a track record of releasing some of their titles (The Future, The Source, Electrick Childen) on DVD only though. But if this is already penciled for a BD release then I imagine the plans will carry over if/when they find a new partner.

Pcturehouse Entertainment have struck up a distribution deal with Film 4 and 4DVD for three films, with the intention of it being an ongoing arrangement. Although Liberal Arts isn't mentioned it's possible that this may lead to the film being put out through them.

I must have missed that e-mail, but I've checked, and the order doesn't exist on my account. I was looking forward to this as well, and it wasn't long until it was supposed to be released

If what it says above about Revolver Entertainment is true, then it's worth picking up their releases while they're still available. I'm looking at Amazon and without much looking have found Ill Manors for £1.26 plus £1.26 postage on Blu-ray. I've been after this for a while, and without me looking in this thread, I wouldn't have searched, and may have missed it

Is there an English-friendly european release of this at all? The UK release still seems to be stuck in limbo I think the US one is region-locked, though there is an Australian one but this is more expensive, especially with the postage costs.
