PS3 remote? - Blu-ray Forum

I just bought a PS3 remote. I think I may have a problem that is going to really piss me off!! I have already sold my PS3 controller, and I can't see a way to get the new remote to pair with the PS3. Am I right?

Yea you need the controller so you can assign the remote to the device.

I think I may just take back this controller and buy the NYKO. I should be able to use my Harmony to control the NYKO and in essence control the PS3 with my Harmony right?

i believe so. i read somewhere to program using sony dvd player codes. theres also a ir receiver thats made to blend with the ps3 that i like its 35 bucks. let me know if your interested and i can get you the link, just have to find it.

Yes you do. My remote would not work when I updated last night and it specifically says to use the Controller during this process.

Selling the only controller is a bit extreme.

I think you may need the original controller from time to time, like someone mentioned for updates and such.

Blockbuster rents out controllers....or you could just buy one from walmart or best buy and return it when ur done.

I only sold it because I will not be playing any games on the PS3. I just thought I could buy a remote and be done with it. I also thought the remote could do everything that the controller could, but I guess I will need one to do updates through the USB, right?

The controller doesn't have to be connected with the USB cable anymore but the controller is still needed to complete the process.

Did you try to plug in an USB keyboard (or mouse)? I don't see why you'd need the contoller to access the XMB.

Good idea. I'm not sure if that will work with the firmware updates (haven't tried it) but I bet it would allow him to get the remote registered. I've used a mouse and keyboard to navigate the XMB.

Once I get the remote working, can I then use the remote to get updates and stuff? I guess looking back on it I need to just get another controller, because if the remote doesn't work or breaks I will have to go through all of this again if I had to buy another remote.
