Default Direct TV picture settings?

What are the best settings for optical picture quality?

I have it set to "Native:On", "Original Format". Also have the resolution set all they way up to 1080p.

Am I missing anything?

TIA.

That's really about it. The only other thing I had to do was set the HDMI Black Level to "Dark" because the picture was washed out and not as vibrant otherwise. You won't have to worry about black crushing with this as long as your brightness level is still calibrated correctly. If you're not using a plasma, though, I'm not sure if that will apply to you. By the way, you will see 1080i instead of p for most shows because that's what most HD channels broadcast in, so don't let that worry you.

Good luck and I hope you find the best settings that suit you best!

Thanks GB14. I love Direct TV. Beats the H3ll out of cable. Is there and HDMI black level setting on Direct TV boxes?

I love it, also. The PQ and amount of HD channels available is just amazing, I couldn't ask for more. The black level setting is in the television's settings, not the DirecTV receiver. Out of all the televisions in my house, only the plasma needed it. The LCDs are fine from the start.

By the way, if you're using a surround sound set up, you will want to go into your audio options and change from PCM to Dolby Digital so the few select programs that broadcast in 5.1 will be output in that.

I actually have native turned off, and everything set to display at 1080i original format.

So you have 1080p unchecked? From my understanding, having all of the available resolutions selected won't hurt anything unless your TV absolutely can't put a 1080p signal out. For example, my television is 720p, but since it can still output a 1080p signal and down res it, I just have all of the resolutions selected. The resolution indicator on the front of the receiver still says 1080i, 480p, etc. on everything that displays in that so I'm assuming it still outputs the correct resolution, even if you have all of them selected.

No I have all the resolutions selected, I just have it set so it always outputs 1080i and not switch between that and 720p. Not much is in 1080p on directv besides pay movies. And it works fine when I watch 3D.
