The Avengers - Got extremely high ratings from critics and fans alike, but because it was too "fun" and lacked "great acting performances" the movie has alread been tossed to the side and was omitted from most "best of 2012" lists. So how does an inferior action/sci fi movie like Avatar get nominated for best picture but The Avengers is largely ignored? Thats what happens when the people running the show try to keep relevance with the young audience while trying to uphold a "better then thou" attitude that celebrates mostly inferior movies from cinemas past. They suffer from the biggest case of nostaliga known to man and yet these people are looked up to as a guiding light. Really, did anbody expect The Avengers to step foot anywhere near inflated "classics" like "Sunshine"?
Hollywood has realized the genreal audience is too dumb or too lazy to think for themselves. So they've set the rules and many gladly play by them. Thats sad. Sucker Punch - Try liking this movie without being labeled a violent video game loving 17 year old. Funny thing is the same people who bash this movie are probably right now slobering over yet another overly violent bloodbath Tarantino revenge movie while accepting the foul language in such movies including numerous uses of the n word as "high art" while Sucker Punch's mini skirt heroines are too trashy for their infallible eyes. Suckerpunch's failure highlights the general Audience as well as "critics" who've proped themselves up on enough hot air to melt the ice caps inability to intellectually absorb and understand a movie that doesnt fall under a tried and test story arc. The claim they want something new and when they are given something that blends genres they immediately reject then turn right around and blame Hollywood for being too stale and out of ideas. |

Obviously it's not some hidden gem but it wasn't exactly a mainstream hit either. Last edited by octagon; 02-18-2013 at 05:20 AM. |

Exactly--
You want "Underrated"? Just go into a Disney thread, and watch the wide, massive sea of collected facepalming every time some uninformed and largely wishful-thinking high school kid goes "Hawhaw, lookit all the money Disney lost on John Carter--Serves it right, trailers looked stoopid anyway!" ![]() |

I seen a preview for this movie, and for sure want to watch it. Did they not release this on blu-ray? Amazon.com only has the DVD listed for around $30. I also checked France and Uk Amazon with no luck. |

I disagree. The problem with Sucker Punch was the pacing. It wasn't entertaining. Don't get me wrong, I like women in short skirts as much as the next guy, however the problem was we didn't have any interest in what they were saying or trying to say. It was a terrible movie and tried to entertain us with visuals. As an audience, we have grown past that (most of the time). Compare Sin City to Sucker Punch, and the main difference is how entertaining each character is. We never really understand the main characters in Sucker Punch. We are given two minutes of blah blah, a few images to understand the plot, and we move on. In Sin City, the whole movie is about character creation and explanation, around the very entertaining visuals. Underrated movie in 10's for me would be John Carter. I had heard so much negative about it, however it was entertaining for me and my family. We all enjoyed the character and visuals. It also made us want to see more(although that will never happen now). +1 on Dredd 3d. It was awesome. |

I just watched John Carter again yesterday and I have to agree that it is a very underrated movie.
I would like to also add The Green Hornet, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: THe Lightning Thief, The Crazies, and The Wolfman. |

1. The Avengers is number 3 on IMDB's top of 2012 list 2. Great Acting? RDJ and Mark Ruffalo gave 2 great performances. Boom. 3. The Avengers didn't get nominated for Best Picture for one reason and one reason only. It's a comic book movie. The Dark Knight received a similar snub. And btw, The Avengers really isn't Best Picture material... |

I read some of the response here and I just have to ask, how did anybody actually like Never Let Me Go? I mean sure it may have been well acted, but man was that a pointless, depressing piece of crap!
![]() Also, Blue Valentine was another film that had great performances, but man I think I may need some Prozac after watching it again! ![]() |

As for Blue Valentine, Derek Cianfrance is a terrible visual stylist. Close Ups should be more carefully employed. It seemed as if he wanted us all to know, "THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT MOMENT...AND BY THE WAY SO IS THE NEXT." Let's hope A Place Beyond the Pines is better shot.
