I personally preferred Season 4 as my favorite, but this season was certainly entertaining

This season was a definite improvement over seasons five and six, but it still falls short of the first four in my opinion. I'm definitely looking forward to picking it up though and then seeing where they take season eight.

I agree. The first 4 were still better, but this season was refreshing after 5-6, and was good to see them break formula a bit. It was fun to watch. I haven't bought a season since season 4, but I'll buy this one.

Here's hoping Season 8 is the last one though.

I sort of hope Season 8 will be the last season.

While I truly do enjoy this show and I love it beyond words, I don't want them to ruin it by dragging it out any further.

I'm looking for some closure, but it is one of the few shows I follow on TV any more, and pretty much my favorite. Plus, it re-starts early this year, end of June if memory serves.

(Funny all the posts that appeared while I was typing, all concurring with desire for closure.)

Before the end of season six, they said that the plan was for season eight to be the last season. The end of season six was supposed to start the ball rolling on setting things up for the end of the series.

But of course, that was before the record ratings that season seven had, so who knows if they'll actually hold to it.

Edit: Here's the story that was published during season six that I was referring to - "Dexter" scoop: Series endgame begins this season

they've already mentioned that they're considering extending it past season 8.

Yeah, I know. That's why I said the plan was for season eight to be the last season.

Nothing has been stated definitively either way at this point, although I'd be surprised if they actually do end it after this season. The ratings in season seven were way too high for them to really want to cut things off now, even though it would probably be the best thing for the story.

I'll be royally pissed if they extend it. too many shows lately have been stretched past it's limits. "How I met your Mother" is the biggest offender lately.

I feel like I'm the only person who enjoyed Season 6.

I thought it was really neat to depict a serial killer who kills based on Scripture Passages.

I think Season 6 is as bad as its reputation (terrible guest star, most obvious plot twist in history). Season 5 is a little underrated. I thought Julia Stiles did great, and I liked the Lumen/Dexter relationship.

that part was pretty cool. what was bad was how horrible Colin Hanks was and how everyone saw the plot twist a mile away. I saw the plot twist coming from the 3rd episode but I honestly doubted myself because I thought they weren't as stupid as all that to actually go with that twist

I know what you mean.

Every since Travis was in the cafe with that girl, I knew what was going to happen. Yeah, I guess the plot was lacking a bit, but I really enjoyed the concept.

Plus I liked the locations in the season, such as the Church and the Museum.

Supposedly, Season 8 is still being planned as the final season. However, if Showtime requests another season (and with Dexter being one of their flagship shows, it's very likely that could happen), the writers have said that they'd consider extending it.

Julia Stiles was fine. The writing of the season, in my view, left a lot to be desired, though. I felt like I was watching Dexter being written by someone that knew the premise of the show, and some of the character basics, but nothing more than that.

I do agree that Season 6 was the worst one, though.

When Dexter ends, what big shows does Showtime have besides Homeland?
