Marion Cotillard takes 'Night' job
Thesp will star in Dardenne brothers' next pic

By Elsa Keslassy

Marion Cotillard is set to topline "Two Days, One Night" (Deux jours, une nuit), helmed by Belgian brothers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne.

Pic is produced by the Dardennes' Les Films du Fleuve in Belgium, and Denis Freyd's Paris-based Archipel 35.

Cotillard will star as Sandra, who helped by her husband (Fabrizio Rongione), only has one weekend to convince her colleagues to give up their bonuses so that she can keep her job.

Pic will lense this summer in Belgium.

Diaphana has French distribution rights, Wild Bunch will rep the film internationally.

The Dardennes have a stellar fest track record, which includes five Cannes nods. Their latest film, "The Kid With a Bike," won Cannes' Jury prize and earned a Golden Globe nomination and a European film nod, along with a flurry of international awards.

This month Variety announced Cotillard is in talks to star in Benoit Jacquot's "The Diary of a Chambermaid," another highbrow French-language drama, due to shoot in March 2014.

I like how Marion Cotillard hasn't been completely consumed by Hollywood. She's still making French films, and I will be checking this out for sure. Hopefully it plays at TIFF.

She must keep doing french films because France has been in trouble the last 10 years barely making 5 good films every year and she is always part of it !! Really, don't leave Marion !!!

I saw it a few months back and I enjoyed quite a lot specially the performance but I can also agree that it is a bit repetetive.

Just came back from seeing this. My favorite film of 2014 by a good sized margin. Incredible!

There's definitely lots and lots of walking in this movie though By the time the movie is over it feels as if you lost a few calories yourself by watching Marion Cotillard go through all she did to get her job back lol.

I liked it a lot too. It's a very steady and easy movie watching experience. I believe I rated it a 4 out 5.

I enjoyed it quite a bit too, mostly because of Cotillard's performance but I can easily say I will never see this again. Really no reason to.

I suppose this is the first film by the Dardenne brothers many will see because it features a movie star, but that is exactly what made it a little less effective than some of their previous films, which starred lesser known or unknown actors. Having a major movie star in the lead slightly ruined the sense of naturalism for me, though it is a good film. I preferred their previous film The Kid with a Bike, so anybody who enjoyed this should check out their previous work. The Child, Rosetta and Lorna's Silence are all great too.

Wish I liked this more as it ticks all my cinematic boxes; just felt like the execution was lacking and the central conceit kept me at a distance.
