It was released by Warner Bros as part of the Warner Archive collection. Great film, and it deserves better, but at least it's on disc.

Eye of the Needle (1981)
Gorky Park (1983) Clean and Sober (1988) Eye of the Needle and Gorky Park were released together as a double feature in some bargain basement DVD release about 2 years ago, not widely available and very poor quality Im sure, the specs about the format werent even available.. both should have been treated far better as they are excellent films from the early 80s. Clean and Sober only got a full screen release in the early days of DVD, another film deserving of a better release. Eye of the Needle and Clean and Sober I still have on VHS hoping for the day they might get Blu Ray releases.. Gorky Park I havent seen since it first appeared on HBO/Cinemax. |

Even though many VHS movies have not been released on DVD, the studios still have the masters stored in their vaults. Some of those unreleased movies, have been broadcast previously on satellite, and cable premium HD channels. I've recorded a few of them on my DVR.

For the longest time, I have been wanting to see the uncut version of A Nightmare on Elm Street 5, Given that this is only available on old Laserdiscs (which I believe is quite rare nowadays) and pre-1999 VHS (in PAL territories), I took a chance on an Amazon UK listing. Today it arrived, and had a different cover than what was shown on Amazon.co.uk, and I thought this should be interesting.... Just checked, and it's uncut! How about that - sometimes it pays to take a gamble.
![]() Version listed on Amazon I thought I was getting Below is the one I got, which is the 1991 Fox release. [Show spoiler]

Last Summer-with Barbara Hershey, Richard Thomas, Bruce Davidson, and Catherine Burns (Oscar nominated performance). When first released it was rated X but was pulled from the theaters, edited and rereleased with a R rating. It was available on VHS but was the R cut. It shows up on TCM occasionally, again the R version. It's a Warner's title but they seem happy to sit on it. If they're not going to release it let Criterion give it a proper treatment. Hopefully the original cut still exists.

I am actually surprised that there are so many movies that haven't been released yet. look at all the low budget western, film noir, etc collections that are being sold in stores - 10 movies on 5 dvds for $15 type of thing. suprised studios don't just do the same thing and sell an 80's action pack, 80's horror set, etc. if they did it for a decent price, the transfer doesn't have to be fantastic and you don't need much if anything for extras.
