Good to see BD outselling HD DVD on identical titles
I thought Casino Royale sold over 100,000 copies and they say i's only ~29K and 100K is shipped number? I'm not quite sure I understand why it was so important as a milestone, it's just shipped copies, not pre-ordered or sold?

Still...only 2 HD-DVD titles in the top 25. That's got to be somewhat significant.

And one of those titles was released last summer. HD-DVD hasn't even been treading water. It is sinking like a stone.

I think you mean "Batman Begins." I wouldn't touch that campy sequel crapfest on BD.

AFA the 100k shipped milestone I assume it's easier to work with than trying to figure out actual sales. Retailers are gonna order based on their best guess in the beginning and then on the actual sales after that. They don't want a bunch of stock sitting around on shelves so it's still pretty accurate I guess.

And the numbers are only thru the 18th. CR came out on the 13th. 5 days.

Thinking about it some more, that top 25 list is pretty freaking amazing.

Only 2 titles in the top 25 for HD DVD. One can only imagine that if that Batman title were released by Warner on Blu-ray like they said they would, that might not even be there.

Part of it is because it took so much longer for Air Force One, the first DVD to do so, to reach that point. Shipping so many copies does show demand; a store won't re-order too many titles if the ones they've got aren't selling. Also, putting "Casino Royale," "Blu-ray," and "100,000," in the same headline is quite a good PR move.

I was pretty sure, but it would be funny if Batman Returns on BD outsold Begins on HD-DVD. That would absolutely show that BD has won.

I C. So shipped prety much shows the demand based on retailers requests.
Since the departed outsold HD DVD, I am sure Batman will do the same once it's released, and probably by larger margin

Nothing more to say other than that is sheer domination.

The numbers in the article are for March 18th. That's five days after Casino Royale was released. Sony announced 100K shipped (and 50K sold) on Mar 27th. And Sony's numbers would be based on all retailers/distributors, not just tracked ones.

The studios care about their own sales, which would be shipped units.

Obviously HD DVD owners magically manage to shop anywhere that isn't tracked.

How silly of you all for not realizing that.

Where's JTK? I'm waiting for him to wander in here with something like 'shock & awe'!

This is great news and it really proves what I've been thinking all along. Standalone sales for the Toshiba models don't mount to a hill of beans. With the crazy attach rate the zealots like to flaunt if Toshiba was selling 30,000-40,000 units a month wouldn't they have more titles in the top 25? Even if there releases this year have been sparse?

Things are only going to get worse for HD DED if and when the BDA studios start "shock and awe". (Shameless JTK plug)
