Default Is D-box motion worth the cost?

I see ads for this before a movie plays at my local theater. They are selling D-box tickets for $14 bucks. Which is alot for a poor person like me, I can buy a bag full of 74 cent instant noodles for that. But with Oz coming out this friday I'm tempted to see it in D-box.

So for you guys who have seen a movie at the theater how was the D-box? And is it worth $14?

I've wanted to try it. And for $14 I would! But, here in Canada tickets for a 3D presentation are $13 already, so it would only be $1 more. So, it would more likely be $16 or $17, which I wouldn't pay for... unless it was the right film.

Something like Days of Thunder would be awesome! I don't think Oz will be worth a D-Box experience. But, since you are curious, it could be a small investment to help guide any future decisions on the matter.

I didn't care for it myself. My wife and I found it distracting. I turned mine down to the lowest level and my wife turned hers off. I found I was concentrating more on the movement of the chair then the movie.

However, I here from a LOT of teens who seem to love D-Box motion seats. I think I'm just older and not into it. Kind of like when you love rides at the fair when you are younger, but not so much when you are older.

So, if you are younger and still like rides at the fair - then you'd probably really like D-Box.

(And I'm betting Oz would be great for D-Box).

I've seen a few films using it and it isn't as fun as the motion rides at Theme Parks but it does add some novelty to it. If you enjoy those, you'll have a good time.

I did it once at a Muvico Theater in Rosemont, IL. The movie was the latest Pirates of the Carribean. My wife and I liked it well enough but they need to lower the price as it was too expensive. I know they want to recoup their investment but afterwards they should give folks a break.

I work right down the street from Rosemont.

That's all I have to add to this conversation, until I clicked on this thread I had never even heard of D-Box motion. So to be clear, it's just watching the movie as normal accept your chairs shake around in response to what is on the screen?

I watched Hanna in a dbox seat at the mall of america & was unimpressed. I would've preferred to have a seat that reclined properly. The sacrifice in comfort didn't seem worth the novelty of having my seat move. Not worth it in my opinion.

Eh, seems like a waste of money. They got some at a Muvico here in Tampa but I really don't have any interest in paying the extra $$$. For a theme park, it's nice, but for a 2+ hour movies it would seem like it'd be more of a distraction then anything else.

I've seen Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and John Carter in Dbox and I thought it was quite a bit of fun both times. The main thing to remember is that you really need to choose your movie appropriately if you are going to try it out. Just like a movie's soundtrack can be mixed poorly, so can a Dbox "track". Or, you might find that the movie might not have enough motion or rumble effects to be worth the added price of admission. I did like Dbox enough to see what it would cost to implement in my home theater for what it's worth, but it is VERY costly (not saying I won't do it at some point though ).

When i was working at the cinema they had installed 30 D-Box chairs in one of the big theatres. It's reserve seating but I don't think it's worth the price.

Ticket - $12.50
3D - $3.00
D-Box - $8.00
Total for 1 ticket - $23.50 (more than Imax)

The first movie they showed was 'Act of Valor', but the first big release we got was 'John Carter'. I never watched any because even as an employee we had to pay for it.

In the lobby they had a pair of demos which were so fun, it gives a nice sample of what to expect. Some were utilizing the motion quite well, others just felt like it rumbled randomly.

Only regret... Avengers. I kept playing the trailer over and over, and the best part... when Ironman is zipping through the streets and Hulk catches him. What an experience.

Having experienced D-BOX myself, all I can say is that it's something that you should experience for yourself. My first D-BOX film was The Hobbit pt1 in 3D (Does that make it 4D?) and I found that quite enjoyable, enough so to continue experiencing D-BOX.

If your movie theatre has a demo unit in the lobby, give that a try out. If you feel quite impressed with it and it is something you would enjoy, go on to get the tickets. If you feel the opposite, then maybe D-BOX isn't for you. It's all about personal opinions and likewise.

I've done it once and, really, it didn't float my boat whatsoever. I found it distracting and pointless, and it never drew me into the narrative (in fact, it did the opposite and pulled me out).

Plus, for the extra money, it just wasn't worth it. In hindsight, I'd kick my past self for even considering it.

It really does depend on the movie. I thought the D-Box in Silent Hill: Revelation was great, but the D-Box in Wreck-It Ralph was very random and not worth the upcharge.

My theatre recently did an expansion of 7 screens and 2 of them seem to be "D-Box" and according to their website, the price for one ticket is $20 compared to the normal $9.50 ticket. What the hell?

What really sucks is when there's no other options for a movie. Right now Ender's Game is D-box only and I want to see it but not frickin D-box.

D box is cool, but makes me sick when I try to eat something during a movie.
