I and many other people would be very interested in Christian Biblical movies on the BLU-RAY format. I currently own many Christian films on DVD, Laserdisc, and one on D-VHS. The Passion of the Christ on 1080I D-VHS with a 1.54mb soundtrack is a movie I enjoy watching in HDTV.
Movies I would like to purchase in BLU-RAY if and when they are released
Plus many other classic Christian movies would be awesome to own in 1080P with PCM sound tracks. |

I would have to second ''the ten commandments'' and ''ben hur''. I saw passion of the christ, and once was enough for me. it was pretty realistic but not something i'd watch over and over. I mean I already knew how it ended before I walked in.

Many of these epic films were shot in Large Format negatives and/or super wide anamorphic ratios and with magnetic track multichannel sound.
They's be great and I'd love to have them on Blu-ray if transfered optimally from 4k scans of the Large Format elements. One can dream. Ten Commandments (Paramount) VistaVision The Robe (20th Century Fox) CinemaScope 2.55 Demetrius and the Gladiators (20th Century Fox) CinemaScope 2.55 The Bible: In the Beginning (20th Century Fox) 70mm D-150 King of Kings (MGM-Warner) Technirama Ben Hur (MGM-Warner) UltraPanavision 2.75 The Greatest Story Ever Told (20th Century Fox) UltraPanavision 2.75 and others |

For some reason, I was thinking Fox already said something about bringing The Passion of the Christ out this year. I'd love to see Ben Hur and The Last Temptation... as well. I never have seen The Robe, but it's high on my to watch list as well. Hopefully, they'll get around to it sooner or later.

I have the Ten Commandments but would replace it quickly when it is covered in Blu.

I agree.
Especially Passion of Christ and Ten Commandents. These would be perfect for during the Holy Week seasons every year. |

People exagerrate how violent the Passion of the Christ is. If it weren't a christian movie people wouldn't bat an eyelid since fare like Hellraiser and Silent Hill don't attract much comment.

I guess my problem with Passion isn't the violence so much as the demonization of Jews and the fundamental way it ignores all of Christ's teachings, as well as Vatican II reforms. Well, ok. It's the violence too (in the context that the violence happens to a peaceful, extremely influential religious leader). GTA4 won't show Christ getting scourged like that, yet Christian fundamentalists seem to have a problem with GTA and not with Passion. Hypocrisy?

![]() I also would maintain that Passion has nothing to do with the bible. It is very loosely based on a couple of the gospels, and is mostly "artist's" interpretation. |

I don't think Passion demonizes the Jews since errr, Jesus is a Jew as are the disciples, Mary, Mary Magdalene, Simon of Cerene, Veronica and the Sanhedrin council member who storms out of the trial yelling "this is a beastly travesty!"
The Pharisees (leaders of the Jewish temple) arrest Christ and the Romans torture and execute Him. The idea is that human beings can be truly evil which isn't exactly a controversial claim lol. As far as it being extra-Biblical, that's certainly partially true but it's based deeply in Catholic tradition which is a valid interpretation of scripture. All the other films listed here are largely extra-Biblical too since the Bible only gives the very simplest of description. Last edited by Knight-Errant; 04-08-2007 at 05:30 PM. |

I would love a remastered bd version of Jesus Christ Superstar. I could never figure out why even when they re-released it with a dd soundtrack it wasnt a 5.1 track. I thought the video quality was actually better on the original sd release. Now lets go with a remastered audio track already!!

I agree the Nativity Story would also be a good movie. I enjoyed watching that movie in the theater. It was released on DVD 3-20-2007 by New Line Home Entertainment.

For anyone that has the old D-VHS D-theater format which uses tapes up to 50GB encoded with high bit MPEG-2, 20th Century Fox made the Passion of the Christ in 1080I with 1.54mb full bit rate DTS. The movie can sometimes be found on EBAY used or new. The picture quality of Passion of Christ is awesome in 1080I with DTS sound. I would replace my HDTV D-VHS version if a 50GB BLU-RAY version was released with 1080P and DTS-HD sound track.
P.S. I agree with Decizzulado about doing 4K master scans of the following movies. It would be in the studios best interest to do 4K scans because one day in about 10 years a 4K optical consumer format most likely will be on the market. Ten Commandments (Paramount) VistaVision The Robe (20th Century Fox) CinemaScope 2.55 Demetrius and the Gladiators (20th Century Fox) CinemaScope 2.55 The Bible: In the Beginning (20th Century Fox) 70mm D-150 King of Kings (MGM-Warner) Technirama Ben Hur (MGM-Warner) UltraPanavision 2.75 The Greatest Story Ever Told (20th Century Fox) UltraPanavision 2.75 and others |

I'm still skeptical of 4k masters myself. Downconversion was not exactly ideal for DVD, creating ringing that most assumed to be edge enhancement, but is actually a seemingly unavoidable byproduct of scaling. That may not apply to the solutions being currently employeed for high def. But, it is still of potential concern. I'm also reluctant to assume a 4k format will be produced for anything other than large cinematic venues where it's most appreciable.
Personally, I'd much rather see the industry evolve toward bringing the new 3D technologies into the home. |
