Question Problem with quality

I'm using a PS3 with the latest firmware updates. I'm also using a Sony Grand WEGA HDTV 42" 1080i television (the PS3 plays the Blu-Rays on 1080i as well). I'm using a Phillips HDMI cable, not sure what speeds or anything on the cable. It was $30 at Wal-Mart.

When I play a movie, I notice a lot of fuzziness in the backgrounds. Most noticeable is 300. The film looks sort of grainy, or something to that effect. So my question is: would that be the HDMI cable (I'm sure I just got a cheap one)? Would that be my television or some setting on it? Or would that just be the PS3?

By the way, DVDs look fine on it. It's only the Blu-Ray movies that look fuzzy in quality.

Movies that are most noticeable are 300, Harry Potter's latest movie, and Momento.

If you still have your previous cable for your PS3, swap cables and see if that is the problem. If it doesn't get fixed, then its either the TV or the PS3.
Either that or it is how the movies were filmed. Remember that the camera focuses on where the action is. Its also how your eyes work. You focus on one object and everything besides that one object will not be in focus, merely because you are not focused on that object.

I can adjust a setting on my TV and it makes it go away a bit (I believe it is Noise Reduction) and that seems to help a lot, but still looks weird in some films. It's not really that annoying but I was wanting to see if someone had that problem and fixed it maybe by getting a faster quality HDMI cable.

Its part of the film, not a problem.

Do a search for "grain"

just put your DNR (Digital Noise Reduction) on High. Films like 300 will still have grain, because its supposed to be like that.

Smile Not the Cable ....

With digital / HDMI...you either have a picture or you don't. If you have picture and it's bad...look at things other than the cable.

you're supposed to sit close. Real close.

I been doing most of my blu watching in my bedroom and I think my 42" is too small. I don't think my wife will let me swap the 50" from the living room either. I need a new tv for the bedroom.
