Since it's the 35th anniversary and with Man of Steel coming out, I thought there might be a special edition either a single release or a new box set. However on the Exorcist post there was a listing for major WB releases for the rest of the year and no Supes.
But... there was an iTunes movie sale not long ago featuring WB action titles for $7. Superman's been $15 for the longest time and I was like I'll get it for that price. But it was gone, along with S2 and S Returns. They did the same thing last year with the Bond titles and Indiana Jones and TKOTCS. Then they showed up again when they released the new box sets. I know it's a long shot, but what do you guys think? I haven't picked up the current box set yet since I have the DVD UCE tin and S1, 2, and Returns on HD, but a new set with some new extras and maybe Man of Steel included (or even a new lower price point or iTunes DC, not UV, useless to me) I'd be 100% sold. |

And yes, I wish they could get someone to make a proper superman II using footage from both versions and not reusing the turning back time device. Sadly after trying to get Donner to do his version for a decade---it might seem insulting to say "You failed, now we will let somebody else do a combined version." |

Yeah you're right, there wouldn't need to be new extras because they were pretty loaded to begin with. But for me the signs are there that something is in the pipe. At the very least if it was repackaged at a lower price or includes MOS I'd be in. I haven't seen it for cheaper than $80 for awhile. The first Die Hard Blu set was like $90 and I got the new one for $30 with $10 movie money, so I could see this getting repromoted at $50 maybe? And a promo for a ticket for MOS?

I don't see an iTunes deal happening unless it's iTunes sponsored.
WB doesn't roll that way anymore. As for a set with MoS, I can only assume they won't do that, given that (like the Nolan bat movies not being part of the last Bat Anthology) it is a clean slate. S returns was trying to belong to the legacy series and so it was allowed to, but MoS is it's own beast. I'm sure if everything goes according to plan there will be plenty of options for MoS boxed sets down the line (DC Phase One sort of thing). |

I have the box set, but I have no interest in 3, 4 or Returns. So if they included the deleted scenes in singles releases for 1 and 2--I'd buy them and sell the box set.

All that I want is a top-notch transfer of Superman: The Movie (I prefer the long cut.) and a top-notch transfer of the original theatrical version of Superman II.
I have no desire to own Superman Returns, and that's why I've avoided the box set so far. If I do not see new stand-alone releases soon, though, I'll spring for the box set anyway. |

I'd buy a copy of Superman: The Movie alone since I don't have any of the films on Blu-ray and don't really care too much to own the box set. It'd be nice if they re-released it in a book package or something.

I think they need someone who is slightly more detached from the series (rather than Donner) to assemble a better version of SII. Don't get me wrong, I think a lot of what Donner did in SII was great, in fact there are very few scenes where I don't prefer the Donner footage. However, the blank bullets scene is test footage and I think some of the CGI (mainly the rockets and the phantom explosion) looks cheap and not like it was filmed in 1980-something.
PS, oh and there was far too much repetition of music cues in the Donner cut. Not really sure what you could do with that if they didnt want to use Ken Thorne's stuff, short of getting J Williams to come in a score a few scenes (expensive). |

I would love an Extended Cut of Superman 4. The Extended Cut I have now is ok though. |

I know what he's talking about. That was only an Idea that someone at Warners had. It was pretty Epic in Scope. I was hoping it came out as well. Though yeah, the cost would be ASTRONMICAL!!! |

If I were dreaming, I would want a version of Superman that combines the TV version of Superman the Movie with Superman 2 the Richard Donner Version edited together into one movie. Of course this will never happen, but I can dream. To see the Superman that Donner originally planned would be wonderful. Superman 2 theatrical, 3, and 4 can be forever banished to the Phantom Zone.
