Default I AM LEGEND and BITSTREAM using PS3

anyone else have a problem doing this to get the TrueHD audio? I had in 300 which has TrueHD and had my PS3 set to bitstream. I am using 1.3a HMDI connecting to my yamaha RVX1800. So i go to check out I Am Legend and i am flipping through the audios....and i never displays the TrueHD audio track through bitstream. Now on 300...i just had it in and it did bitstreaming of that TrueHD track just fine. So i stopped the movie and went to BD settings on the PS3 and set it to PCM and the TrueHD track showed up. Just wondering why if 300 worked at a bitstream setting why not I Am Legend?
I could not get the PS3 to produce the TrueHD track using bitstreaming...only when reverting to PCM. any thoughts? or has anyone else experienced this? i'm wondering if its my receiver or my ps3 that is the culprit?

The PS3 can't bitstream any of the lossless codecs.

i swear i just changed it off. when i get home...i will put in 300 again and set the ps3 to bitstream which is what the setting was on....and why i brought this question up. and i will test again to see if i see TrueHD while PS3 is set to bitstreaming...then i'll pop in I Am Legend again. i know it won't work on that...but i will check with 300.

it looks like ps3 can't bitstream from that article but i know what i just turned my settings off of bitstream and i just took 300 out of the ps3...and i was listening to TrueHD track on bitstream.
i will confirm this tonight though...don't want to cause all this controversy.

You need to check to see what the bit rate is on the PS3 - just hit the "display" button on the remote. I'm guessing you receiver just said it was TrueHD but it wasn't actually playing the audio in TrueHD.....maybe??

If this is the case, the PS3 will display Dolby Digital, not TrueHD.

when it was set at bitstream it was actually uncompressed PCM on 300. it wasn't the dolby TrueHD track. so my bad. i guess it had both....i only remember reading TrueHD track on 300 but it also has an uncompressed PCM track and that was the track that was playing. i watched i am legend tonight...surprisingly good PQ for a movie who's average bitrate was not very high. i didn't keep the display on the whole time but i don't ever recall it even peaking up into the 30s. low 20s...like 23 as a peak. still good movie though.

What we're saying here is that the PS3 can't produce HD Audio sound? So when I watch a DTS-HD encoded BD on my PS3 via HDMI, the sound quality isn't better than that of PS3 via Optical because it's only getting the DTS-Core anyway. So basically I'm gonna need to purchase a standalone BD player later when they're released in Profile 2.0 and are fully HDMI 1.3 compatible with both DD TrueHD and DTS-HD? Grrrreat...

I bought a second PS3 to go in my Theatre Room because I was under the impression that it was "Future Proof" but now I find that it doesn't yet have HD Audio...what a joke! I knew somehow fitting a $400 BD/Game player with a $13k Home Theatre Room was going to be problematic and I was right.

For the PS3, set to Linear PCM for TrueHD audio on blu-rays, not bitstream.

JTHV I hear ya, I want to hear the full power of DTS-MA too, but we just have to wait a bit longer and it should (will?) be added in an update.

The PS3 internally decodes TrueHD and sends it to the receiver as PCM. The PS3 is not currently incapable of doing the same with DTS-HD, but it has been officially confirmed that an upcoming update will do so.

I may be incorrect, but I don't believe PCM, TrueHD or DTS-HD can pass over optical connections at all (except as 2.0) for content protection reasons.

That's correct, optical cannot do it.

I watched I Am Legend BD last night downstairs on my DLP using a PS3 via Optical and when I selected the Bitstream the sound was much, much better than PCM. But yes, I do believe Optical is only 2 channel.

But as I said, Bitstream sounded far better than PCM guys.

No one knows for sure, speculation is this summer sometime. You should be able to find several threads dedicated to this subject.

Well if no one knows for sure then what would be the point in searching for further information in threads after you've answered my question?
