I'd guess that its because the 360 is the top selling version of cod4, and they are just rewarding those players. I dunno.

On March 28th, in NYC and San Jose, Gamestop will be having a Variety Map Pack party type thing. First 100 people in get a token to download the pack for free, and then the first 200 get to compete for prizes and GS giftcards.

And guess what system? Yep, the 360...

I think the main reason why they're doing this is because the 360 is the "gaming competitions" mainstay. Unless the PS3 can get some FPS games into the nationwide competitions, this type of thing will just occur more often.

I own both systems but do all my gaming on the 360 since that is what my friends have. The PS3 is a movie/media player only for me.

Anyway -- doesn't surprise me at all. The 360 has a bigger install base, and -- more importantly -- a much, much higher attach rate than the PS3. Something like 7 or 8 games for every console. As such, it is the prime console for all cross-platform development. PS3 has a much lower attach rate (partly because of people like me that just don't play games on it).

Anyway -- MS probably paid for the privilege. But the Xbox Live player base is probably also a lot deeper.

Wow, in the last week alone, I've bought more games then the attach rate "says I should have". Picked up Ratchet and Clank, Bladestorm and Oblivion in the last week or so.

Those attach rates are so misleading =P.

Not shocking. MS probably paid Activision to release those exclusive maps. Heck. I wouldn't be suprised if MS paid Activision to not give Harmonix the guitar patch so more people would be inclined to buy GH3 on the 360.
