Default Most Polarizing (In Opinion) Films

I was in another thread, and saw someone praising Sucker Punch, and though it wasn't the topic of the thread, the immediate reaction of the next person was how much they hated it. This in itself isn't odd, but when I think back to other threads, WHENEVER I heard Sucker Punch mentioned, you immediately had a chorus of those who REALLY liked it vs. those that REALLY hate it (or considered it overrated), with seemingly no one in between...

So, that begs the question, what do you consider a polarizing movie(s)/blu-ray(s)? One that everyone really likes or really hates and why?

I'd say that The Tree of Life definitely falls into this category.

Seems as though most people are in one of two camps:

1. It's a boring, meandering piece of self-indulgence by a hack director.

2. It's a unique, beautifully-shot meditation on life and death.

I reside in the latter group, but I can totally see why some people might find it frustrating.

Edit: CoopFilm beat me!

I thought I made some good points on Sucker Punch.

Dune has always been a polarizing film. I remember seeing it on TV when I was about 5 years old and being mesmerized by it. Since then I have owned the VHS, VHS (widescreen), DVD, DVD (steelbook), HD DVD, and BD. I have also read most of the books over the years.

You DID, lol.... No offense meant whatsoever, it just made me think of how it just always seems that when anybody mentions Sucker Punch one way or the other, there's immediately a response in the opposite direction...

I saw Dune in the theater when it was released, shortly after reading the book. I also had a "movie storybook" that was released as a tie-in to the movie. I've owned it on VHS, DVD, extended version DVD, and, finally, Blu-ray. I prefer the standard theatrical version that is on the current Blu-ray.

I fall in the first category, but I don't think of him as a hack director. The boring, meandering piece of self-indulgence though, absolutely.

The Star Wars franchise. Of all the people i know, whether they're movie buffs, casual watchers or only watch rarely...they either love Star Wars, or they hate it. I personally can't stand Star Wars, so it's always a fun conversation subject when i hang out with friends who have great love for the films.

Schindler's List seems to have the same effect on people.

All Tarantino films. I personally hate his overbearing, self-indulgent, and very obvious "look how cool I'm trying to sound" writing, but other people lap it up like it's actually original. To each his own, I guess.

Yes, especially "Death Proof." So many people think it's a complete waste of time, while others can't get enough of it.

Yeah I do see how he polarizes... Though I don't exactly "lap it up" I have enjoyed all of his films that I've seen, ESPECIALLY Django Unchained, the Kill Bills, and Pulp Fiction...

I am a huge fan of everything Tarantino EXCEPT Death Proof. I am in the complete waste of time boat on that one.

+1 The first two or three that I thought of were all Tarantino films.

Another one that comes to mind is Watchmen. I was going with a friend to watch it in the theater but his car had a problem on the way. Thankfully I never paid to see it.
