Seems as though most people are in one of two camps:

1. It's a boring, meandering piece of self-indulgence by a hack director.

2. It's a unique, beautifully-shot meditation on life and death.

I reside in the latter group, but I can totally see why some people might find it frustrating.

Edit: CoopFilm beat me!
I think it's possible to fall into both categories on this one.

I am in this same boat. All that talk and NOTHING. Seemed like a colossal waste of my time.

I am also a huge fan of everything Tarantino and I LOVE Death Proof. I watched in theaters twice, the second time with my father, and we both laughed hysterically at Kurt Russel. The bar scenes are great. The car wreck scenes are great. I personally love that movie. His weakest movie in my opinion is Jackie Brown. I didn't think the payoff was as big, but Jackie Brown is still a good movie.

I can see Cosmopolis being on this list.

Hmmm? He's definitely made a poor film or two, but there's no denying his ambition.

Dark Knight Rises is another. lots of people think it is a masterpiece while others think it falls way short. but with this one, there are a lot who think it is not as good as the last one but still a good movie.

Drive - I thought it was boring as hell but others think it is fantastic.

I have heard Skyfall too(actually all of the new Bond movies). I haven't seen them yet but some people really don't seem to like them but they have done pretty well.

I know plenty of people that were lukewarm on Star Trek.

As for Drive, if anything it's too stylized and in your face. It's the farthest thing from boring.

good promotion. people bought into the "lost footage" concept. plus they sold it the right way - talk about the people leaving the theatre sick but don't mention they are motion sick from the camera bouncing around so much. it was a new concept and they pushed it to the max but it still didn't help the predictable ending. this was the only movie I went to where me and my friend actively talked out loud during it because we were bored out of our skulls and were waiting for the good part to start.

Skyfall. Such an overrated TDK rip-off I don't get why it got such raving reviews

On this forum, Tree of Life definitely takes it. You have people who think it's one of the best movies they've ever seen, you have people who loathe it with every fiber of their being... I find it interesting just how differently people can process the same movie.

Avatar also seems to have pissed into half the internet's collective cheerios, whereas other people think it's great fun.

And then people fell for it all over again with Paranormal Activity. People kept saying it was "the scariest movie they have ever seen".

It was a clever gimmick, but no one with half a brain ever "bought into it".
I like TBWP because it does something interesting with the genre.
