Default Recommendations for Office Conf Room

Not exactly home theater, but trying to find something suitable for the office. Current PJ sits on table but it is always in the way, plus the noise from it interferes with the speaker phone. Would move it to a ceiling mount or a shelf, but it would not work well. So I am looking at new PJ choices.

Want more resolution than current 1024 x 768, so thinking of 1920x1080 or similar. Might show odd movie, but mainly want more resolution for stuff like schematics, Excel spreadsheets, etc.

Want zoom and lens shift for more flexible mounting choices.

Want VGA15 and HDMI inputs.

Brightness and noise, let's see what my other choices bring. Obviously brighter and quieter are preferred. The room is 22 ft long by 14 ft wide. Have good light control but do not want to sit in the dark just to see the screen. We will have to buy a new screen too, or paint the wall. But for now I just want to identify the proper PJ so I can work out a budget for the overall upgrade. Trying to keep the PJ under $2k USD.

Was thinking about a Panny AR-100U for $1300 you get 2800 Lumens, 50000:1 contrast, full HD.

Decent choice? Should I be looking at something else?

Trying to keep the costs down, but definitely want resolution higher than 1024 x 768.

Have you looked at the Epson line? We have an Epson at my work in our conference room. Pretty clear and bright image.

Which one? I need lens shift and high resolution like 1920x1080. I am only seeing the 8350 which at 2000 lumens might be a bit dark. Next one up is the 5010 but is $1000 more. The AR100U is the same price as the 8350 and has the same contrast and resolution, but you get 800 more lumens. The boss is not so concerned about black levels as he is about having to turn the lights down so we can see the screen.

Thanks.

Not many conference room projectors offer lens shift, as it's not as requested feature as it is in home theater (although you'd think it is). If you are going for a home entertainment projector, as it sounds like you are, I couldn't really think of a better projector suited for that, other than the Acer H9500, or the BenQ W1070 (although it's lens shift is limited), which are closer the the AR100U's price.

If you still want a projector made specifically for an office, projector central does have a few recommendations, some of which may offer lens shift.

Thanks, that is what I am seeing too. I've been there, checking out options and reading reviews.

Looking for higher lumens, lens shift, and high resolution = limited choices. We have a 1024 x 768 PJ now and we find the resolution too small, always having to pan around, play with zoom, etc. so higher resolution with larger screen is a must. Larger screen mean more lumens unless we darken the room to compensate, which can make it difficult to work with paper handouts, take notes, etc. Mounting options are limited, so lens shift is really needed unless there is some other way that I have not thought of to position it all. So I guess I must live with what options I do have that meet those criteria and do not cost an arm and a leg. If not the AR100U then I guess I could go for the 8350 and use a higher gain screen if necessary. I need to buy a new screen anyway, so I can always play with the gain for a brighter image.

Have you considered any Wide UXGA resolution projectors (1920x1200)? Lot of bright powerhouse commercial machines are built in that 16:10 format. Epson PowerLite G5450WUNL is 4000 lumens and the line up just increases lumen output from that. The Panasonic PT-EZ570U comes in around 5000 lumens. A search for WUXGA machines over at ProjectorPeople.com comes up with a large number of models.

Well the PJ has been chosen and ordered. Boss went with the Epson 8350, after all the complaining about brightness, etc. Go figure, let's hope that 2000 lumens is bright enough.

Now to find a good mounting solution. I am looking for a nice shelf to attach to the back wall. The dropped ceiling does not look like a good, sturdy option to hang a PJ from, so I am looking at using a shelf instead. The PJ is about 16 lbs, and is 16 inches deep by 18 inches wide according to specs. I have to put another small piece of equipment on that shelf too, the VGA15 extender receiver to bring VGA15 to the PJ along with HDMI. I am trying to find some sort of shelf that is very clean looking, can support 20+ lbs and is about 16 inches deep (? not sure about PJ feet, cable radius, etc.) by 24 inches wide. The walls are prefab office style with drywall over metal studs, but I do not know if they are 16 or 24 inch centers, I need to figure that out.

I was going to go to Home Depot or Lowes and get the stuff to make one up, but the boss is very picky about how it will look so that might not be my best choice. Any ideas or suggestions from those who may have already done this before or have seen something like it? Anybody here have to do something similar to meet the WAF...
