Hmm..

Foreign Film: Seven Samurai (I think it's the greatest film of all time)

US Film: Lawrence of Arabia I think is the most visually stunning.

Rocky

It is the embodiement of perserverance & courage. The fact that the main character is a fighter is simply a metaphor. Rocky is not a sports, boxing, or fighting movie per se. It is about overcoming great adversity in the face of certain defeat. Something we should all try to achieve.

Haven't seen Rocky in years. I caught some of Part 4 last Thanksgiving and God is that film abysmal.

+1 How can anyone have lived without seeing the Bride (let alone any other movies)? Even a lot of people in remote villages in Papua New Guinea who do not have eletric mains have seen Rambo.

It is so good, though! Rocky IV has an awesome soundtrack, and it's just one fun rush of 1980s hugeness.

I have a real soft spot for Rocky III and Rocky IV, because those were the days.

I'll probably buy stand-alone Blu-rays of the first four Rocky movies at some point, because I watched my old DVDs all the time.

No need to buy the box set, though. In my world, Rocky V and Rocky Balboa never happened, The Godfather Part III never happened, Superman Returns never happened, and Blues Brothers 2000 never happened.

Any enjoyment of Rocky IV is purely ironic. Every directorial choice Stallone made lands flat on its face.

Superman Returns happened for me, but I'm beginning to think I'm insane.

I forgot to answer. I guess Jaws, since it's considered the first blockbuster.

I'm not embarrassed to say that I get fully invested in Rocky IV on an emotional level every time I see the movie. The death of Apollo Creed, the motivational speeches, the music, the training montage, and all of it.

I checked into a hotel for a trip several months back, and found that Rocky IV was playing on one of the cable channels. I had to stop what I was doing and finish watching the movie.

I would not quite rank this on an all-time favorites list or anything like that, but it's a gloriously fun movie that delivers in every way on its intent.
