Cool Low Winter Sun (new AMC police drama starring Mark Strong & Lennie James)

First Trailer for New AMC Drama Series LOW WINTER SUN Starring Mark Strong
Quote:

AMC has released the first trailer for the network’s newest drama series, Low Winter Sun. Based on the 2006 British miniseries of the same name, the show is described as “a contemporary story of murder, deception, revenge, and corruption” and centers on the fallout from the murder of a cop by a fellow Detroit detective. Mark Strong looks to give a solid performance in the lead, and fans of AMC’s other series will recognize a few familiar faces like Lennie James (The Walking Dead’s Morgan) and David Costabile (Breaking Bad’s Gale). The tone feels like a cross between The Wire and Breaking Bad, and I’m looking forward to checking out the pilot.

Low Winter Sun premieres on AMC this summer with a 10-episode first season.

Synopsis:
Quote:
A contemporary story of murder, deception, revenge and corruption in a world where the line between cops and criminals is blurred, Low Winter Sun begins with the murder of a cop by a fellow Detroit detective. Seemingly the perfect crime, in reality the murder activates forces that will forever alter the detective’s life, and pull him into the heart of the Detroit underworld.

AMC Announces Breaking Bad Return Date, Premiere of Low Winter Sun

Quote:

The beginning of Walter White's end will take place on August 11.

AMC announced today that the back half of Breaking Bad Season 5 will kick off on Sunday, August 11 at 9/8c. Only eight episodes remain for what many consider to be the best show on television.

Low Winter Sun, meanwhile, will makes it debut immediately following the Breaking Bad premiere.

Starring Mark Strong (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy, Zero Dark Thirty) and Lennie James (“The Walking Dead,” “Jericho,” Snatch), “Low Winter Sun” is a contemporary story of murder, deception, revenge and corruption in a world where the line between cops and criminals is blurred. The series begins with the murder of a cop by a fellow Detroit detective. Seemingly the perfect crime, in reality the murder activates forces that will forever alter the detective’s life, and pull him into the heart of theDetroit underworld. The ten-episode series is based on the 2006 award-winning British two-part mini-series of the same name written by Simon Donald and produced by Tiger Aspect Productions (an Endemol Company).

AMC always delivers(Rubicon doesn't count ) Mark Strong is awesome. Happy to see Lennie James again. Good character actors too, like Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Michael McGrady, and David Costabile. Yes, I'm sold

Can't wait for this. Looks like a really gritty show. Strong and James look great as the leads.

Seems like this isn't really getting a lot of love from a few sites I visit. I know a lot of internet posters claim they are sick of cop shows and this is a cop show set in Detroit. Hopefully it will develop strong word of mouth.

With that cast, the only way this doesnt fly is if the writing is poor. And it will have to be BAD.

I'm excited to see this. I just found out a few weeks ago it was filmed here... had no idea! One of my friends told me their friend even has a small role in a couple of the episodes.

A lot of people love Detroit. We just get a bad name because of the media. But even last night Mark Wahlberg was on Jimmy Fallon talking about how incredible it has been spending time filming Transformers 4 here and Fallon echoed his views as well sharing how much he loved spending time here as well. Sure, there are dangerous and bad parts, but it just gets overblown due to the name. There are a lot of beautiful and awesome parts of the city with incredible music, art, food, etc. I hope one day we can make a comeback. It's crazy that a few decades ago Detroit had well over 1.5 million people here and now there are under 800,000.

Remember when they all laughed at you AMC? When hbo turned down Mad Men, when they all said Breaking Bad was dumb? That walking dead will flop, that the killing is in seattle, and everyone there is always at the costco? Remember? Pepperridge farm remembers.

One of those does not belong with the others.
