Thx is excellent with the right equipment. First a thx receiver is only good if your speakers are also thx certified. My 3d tv, 3d bluray player and ofcourse the onkyo receiver plus speakers are all thx certified and you can tell a difference. They work in tandem.

I have two Elite receivers, the Pioneer 84Txsi. They're connected to very different televisions, players, and computers, and subwoofers, none of which are certified. The sound is amazing, and they all work together just fine. I'm curious: why do you say "First a thx receiver is only good if your speakers are also thx certified." On one of my rigs, all of the speakers are Definitive Technologies Mythos speakers - all seven of them - none of which are certified. On another I have two Sonus Faber Domus speakers, with the rest Definitive Technology Mythos speakers. Again, none are certified, but both receivers are. It's giving off reference quality sound. I'm not clear on the basis for your statement. |

I have a THX Certified Onkyo TX-NR3009 AVR, with the latest greatest version of Audyssey.
All I can tell you is that, everything sounds great, when it's in these settings: Audyssey Music (flat) Curve, THX Cinema (with THX Re-EQ switched off) and Dynamic EQ. Also having four subwoofers in my HT, takes care of those dreaded horizontal and vertical standing waves in the room. |

So this is an atricle explaining THX certification in general.
http://www.hometheater.com/content/thx-certification I have seen certain remarks saying that certain THX certifications mean that the receiver can handle 4 ohm loads on the front speakers. My own two cents? I have a THX certified Logitech Z 5500 system. I use it in the office or the bedroom. They sound pretty good. Would I put them in my living room? No. The non THX certified speakers with the non THX certified receiver and amps I have in there blow them out of the water. I also was just at a HiFi shop and I was listening to some Focal 1038 Be's with some Parasound Halo pre and power amp. The power amp was THX. Did they sound amazing? Yes. Would I swap all my equipment for them? Yes. Did it make me drool profusely? Yes. So bottom line, we are back to the fact that best idea is to listen to it. THX can be really nice but definitely not the be all end all. |

But how do you know for sure, if the superiority of sound, is originated from the THX equipment, and not from the audio source? Lossless audio sounds great anyway, whether the equipment is THX certified, or not.... Have you ever listened to a non THX, high end sound system, and compare, or are you saying, THX equipment sound betters, just because it's THX certified? Any high quality audio equipment, will give stellar performances, and it doesn't necessarily have to be THX certified to do so. My home theater sounds fantastic, and my equipment isn't THX certified, and I don't think it'll make that big of a difference if it was. There are a great deal of high end receivers on the market, that are capable of being THX certified, but they haven't been tested by a THX engineer to get the THX certification, and logo manufactured on the product, due to cost efficiency.
