You can buy Vudu credits online from auction sites. And use those credits to purchase the movie.

Keep in mind you can only add 5 promo credits to your account.

I recently purchased $20 worth of credits for $8 on ebay.

I'm considering purchasing it from iTunes instead as it seems that iTunes Extras has all of the extras that the 4 disc Blu-ray set has based on the screenshots on iTunes of the menu. I am thinking about just buying the SD version due to space and that it only costs $15 and leave the door open to buying it used on Blu-ray if I really like the film, but I keep thinking about just buying the HD version in case I ever get a Apple TV.

You can always start a 2nd vudu account, link it with UV then merge them. Make sure you merge your old account with the new one as Lincoln isnt UV compatible.

It's because Lincoln isn't UV that this won't work, unless he's willing to maintain both Vudu account until it eventually does become UV.

It doesn't.
Watching the (SD)movie with your own eyes would already tell you that it's not in HD.

Even if you look at your movie collection on your Apple TV purchased section - the "HD" icon disappears.

That's what I thought, I just wasn't sure if there was some kind of functionality or setting I was missing, good to know. At least the SD copies are useful for playing on an iphone tho...

I have a 3rd gen aTV, the movie that is in SD will play in SD.
SD copies look pretty good on the TV also, sure they are not BD, but they look pretty decent. Most of mine are in SD and don't really mind the quality, they look better than DVDs. Lincoln looks good on apple SD btw.
