Default Phillips Displays?

Hey, I've been in the market for a new TV for a few weeks now and was wondering what the general consensus for Phillips displays were. I've done a little bit of searching around and some people seem to love them (mostly for the ambient lighting) and some people that toss them to the side as second rate TVs.

Specifically, this set at my local Costco caught my attention... http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...se=&lang=en-US

That's a lot of TV for $1900. I was wondering whether or not it was worth it. I really wanted my new set to be 24fps, but I'm having trouble finding a 1080p/24fps 46"+ LCD/Plasma in the sub-$2000 range. Thanks for any help.

Well to each his own but I personally am not a fan of Phillips. I know a lot of people that are however. I could be a bit bias toward plasma but I think they are better overall for several reasons. There are a few things to consider when making the choice. First off is the room a bright room or fairly dark? If it is bright the LCDs might have an advantage over a plasma. If your looking for a 46"+ tv have you considered rear projection. You can still pick up some large screen for a small amount of $$ (well less then a flat panel). If you want a flat panel about that size for under 2k might I suggest http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-TH-5...235132&sr=8-11 . Let me know if there is anything I can help out with and good luck

I am also looking at the Philip's LCD's. The model you have shown has the perfect pixel HD engine, and all of these in Europe support 100Hz and 24fps as far as
I know. The current models also have a 3ms reaction time and the new models due out in April will have a 2ms.

Please see my tread:-

I'm not sure why the US model dose not support this, and I can't see the Philip's model number on the costco page.

Have you looked at the US Philip's web site to confirm? It might be worth checking out.

I was curious how 24 fps would work with a 100Hz refresh rate... wouldn't it need to be either 96 Hz or 120 Hz for that to work properly? Oh, and the model number is at the very bottom of the Costco page... took me a second to find it as well. If it was 24fps, I might just jump on that. I was considering going for that 60" Sony SXRD rear projector that's on clearance that everyone is talking about, but I've never been a big fan of rear projectors, so I don't know.

The 100Hz in Europe is the standard to improve the PAL system that works at 50Hz(doubles the frames)

Also I think 100Hz is the Max the TV can handle so it can do 48Hz or 96Hz for 24fps sources. I think the Philip's uses the 48Hz and I'm not sure what difference this is over 96 or 120Hz.

I looked at the US website and can't find that model.

The latest model is the 52PFL422D/37. this has a 6ms refresh time so the US seems to be a bit behind Europe for once with Philip's.

But this model does state that it has 3/2 and 2/2 pulldown for 24fps.

Now I not sure the exact meaning of pulldown but is 2/2 48Hz??

Maybe you can check the prices if the model above.

I was wondering why I couldn't find that model of Phillips TV on US website as well. I copied the model number directly from the US Costco website and pasted directly to the Phillips website and nothing came up. I even browsed manually and couldn't find it. Weird. So forgive me if you've already answered the question, but is this model of TV 24fps? I was looking around for further verification, but this model seems to be a ghost, even to Phillips' own website.

Maybe someone else knows but I cant tell to be honest.

But I think the model I posted above is (2/2 pulldown) but you should confirm first.

It's available for 2,399 on line at best buy.

Model numbers of the "same" tvs between the US and Europe tend to be different. The reason being that the European versions almost always have a few more features.

For example, the TV in my sig carries a slightly different model number In Europe, has 3 HDMI ports in Europe and only 2 in the U.S.
I believe it has had a PC connection in Europe too, but I cannot remember.

Europe had more Phillips models with the new Perfect Pixel HD engine last year than the U.S.

Europe is almost always slightly ahead.

Phillips makes some really nice HDTVs. Checkout the reviews at www.trustedreviews.com They almost always give Phillips TVs high marks and this is the site that I go to for my HDTV reviews.

But yeah, Europe is almost always slightly ahead.
But why would an American Costco sell a European Phillips TV?

I didn't say they were.

a few posts earlier were questioning differences between Europe and the U.S.

This TV though may be a costco specific model. Panasonic had a 50 plasma that was costco specific last year. It was a mix between the 2007 and 2006 features I believe and offered for a crazy low price and did not show up on the Panasonic website.

Hey look at this

http://www.trustedreviews.com/tvs/re...52in-LCD-TV/p1

That tv in that review has more features, but the main features of the panel itself are the same as this costco one, as it is PFL series like the one in the review above.

sounds like a kickass tv to me.

I spent over 3 weeks looking at TV's. First decision was I had decided on LCD over Plasma. After that, it came down to 3 TV's.. Sony, Sharp or Phillips. Everything other than those 3 did not look as good.

I really could not tell the difference between the Sharp & Phillips? The Sony did look a _HAIR_ sharper, but it seemed overly colorful.

I went with the (non ambilight) Phillips 42. How can you go wrong for 1200 bucks?
