I personally wouldn't call it "campy." It's unintentionally funny -- Hooper directed the movie completely stone-faced serious and some of the lines and performances are so dramatic and over the top, despite its patently silly plot, that it has to be seen to be believed. One of the writers couldn't believe that Hooper couldn't see what was in front of him, but I'm going to wager he was high most of the time (as people said he was on the set of Poltergeist). Either way, the funny parts are most definitely NOT intentional.
Either way -- it's a unique film. You have a big budget, big special effects (for 1985), a great Henry Mancini score, a terrific cast -- and a nude Mathilda May. It's also hard to compare with anything. It's singularly unique -- and I love it! Love Arrow's packaging too...Steelbook? With the Japanese artwork on the back? Yes please!! ![]() Last edited by DMRI2006; 04-02-2013 at 06:14 PM. |

Day one for me. Let's not forget it features a brief appearance from a pre-Trek Patrick Stewart. I guess with the two discs it'll be the U.S. AND the extended European cuts of the film.
