It was so stupid of Joe not to simply state a preference, and argue the straight truth.

He lost me when he said MPEG-2 was the reason for early BDs being poor. He knew DTheater looked great despite the bandwidth losses HE discovered in the output from the decks.

It's like I knew who I was dealing with the A-man when he wanted to push the idea that MPEG-2 VBR was inferior to MPEG-2 CBR (simple logic: if this was so, then MPEG-2 VBR can be be adjusted to CBR).

He and Joe wanted to push "Blu-ray bad" and did so wearing the badge of authority. Unforgivable.

Are the THX glasses(color filters) included or you need to order them separately?

Right off the bat, immensely superior to the SD DVD. You get each test like a chapter selection. On each side when you flip the chapters, you get a short description of what it's supposed to do and how to use each test

The downside is that the Demo material clips are all 720p, but they still look great mind you, and still serve their function of tossing hard stuff at decoders and your display to test its quality.

I hope Avia comes out with a high def disc of their own.
And then there is that. I think I'll hold out for Avia as well.

Hey,

The HD DVD version that was out was the DVE you can find on DVD,.. just the HD version.

The this that's coming out now is titled "HD Basics" and from what I understand give you only the most basic test patterns.

Add to that the Demo material on the disc is 720p... WTH? Stuff that just pop in I Am Legend or Enchanted and see demo material in 1080p,.. sheesh.

I will rent this version of DVE but I think the "HD Basics" is the signal that a more complete version is in the works. My display device is CRT Front Projector which is very tedious to set up and Red,.. Green, and Blue are all seperately tuned for Geometry, Focus, and White Balance or Grey Scale. So, I don't want something that's only slightly more detailed then the THX optimode patterns or the Disney Setup screens on that Rat movie.

I can't rationalize giving him any support when he outright lied about HD disc formats in his quotes over at WSR (Widescreen Review).

I respected him at one time. But no more (after he shilled with rest of the gang over there.) I think it's payback time for some of the parties who conspired to harm the home theater industry for their personal gain.

Default DVE on Blu-ray just shipped from Amazon

Hey all,

I did a search and checked a couple of pages but didn't see this. I had DVE on Blu-Ray pre-ordered and I just got notification that it shipped today from Amazon.

Woohoo.
