Default IKEA Billy Bookshelf?

My Atlantic Storage cabinet just broke, it was never any good and was always very flimsy and poorly made.

After hearing great reviews from users on this site about Billy Bookshelf I have a few questions before I buy.

How Many Bluray's can you fit in one of the 80cm Wide Ones?
Can you add any extra shelfs?

And any pictures would be a great help.

Many Thanks
- Callum

I got 2 Billy Bookcases, added some extra holes (via a peg hole drill bit set) to fit an extra 2 shelves (8 shelves in total). Also, got glass doors to complete the look. I really like how they turned out and for the price they can't be beat. With an 8 shelf configuration like you see in my picture, I believe you can store roughly 450 blu-ray's or 400 DVD's comfortably with each bookshelf.

The thing I don't like about the Billy is that it's so tall. Hey, I'm 5' 1".....don't judge

Nice set up and I really love the glass doors....where by chance did you get them from if you don't mind me asking? Or does IKEA sell them with the glass doors? Thanks in advance.

Yep, Billy Bookcases come with glass doors and glass shelf options. Unfortunately, the glass doors cost more than the bookshelf itself.

I'm thinking about picking one of these up, can you order the extra shelves though Ikea?

I don't have them, but yes you can http://www.ikea.com/us/en/search/?query=billy
either 15$ or 10$ each depending on size
but like tilallr1 said "added some extra holes (via a peg hole drill bit set) to fit an extra 2 shelves (8 shelves in total). " so there might be a bit of work for it to fit stuff the way you want

To those that use these...do you have them anchored and reinforced with more than what the IKEA instructions suggest?

I had one of these too and though it went up great and was sturdy after being put together, in less than a year with ordinary use, it started wobbling and leaning. It was beyond repair too after the anchors pulled out of/pulled off part of the wall. I finally ended up tossing it when I moved out of my apartment.

Mine are anchored of course. You have too if you add the doors. But they are extremely stable. Trust me I tested it. But I made sure to anchor into solid wood, FYI. Drywall plugs aren't recommend if you add glass doors.

Hey kinda off topic but I just looked at your home theater gallery Nice job! Also very nice house you have.To add to the conversation Billy Bookcases are awesome but like someone else said they are tall so if you're short might have to work at it to reach the top shelf
