Unhappy New member with a question

Greetings.

I have a problem with my surround, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction to solve it.

I have the PS3 conected via HDMI and optical audio to the receiver.

I booted call of duty 4 and it lost its sound as soon as the activision logo appears, no audio on the intro movie and no audio during gameplay, same problem with guitar hero 3.

Rock band and FIFA 08 have no problems at all.

I didn't change any settings or anything, it plays BD fine.

I decided to connect the console directly to the TV via HDMI and there's no audio problems at all, so I thought I could use the optical out from the TV to the receiver but I can't get any sound at all.

Any tips on what I am doing wrong or what should I do?

Everything has been working fine since December when we got the receiver.

Thank you.

Well....

Why are you using both HDMI and optical?

Check your sound settings. If you had set up sound via the HDMI connection to the TV and then connect the optical cable WITHOUT CHANGING ANY SETTINGS, then there's your problem.

Thank you for the replies.

Well, I have the PS3 directly connected to the TV using HDMI because for some reason the receiver has stopped processing some signals and a few games and now tv commercials while watching HDTV are mute.

I wanted to use the optical out to avoid having to plug/unplug ables when I want to watch a BD movie.

Sony just told me via chat that, if you use HDMI, the optical output won't work.

I have contacted Harman Kardon to ask about this issue and hopefully I get a quick response.

If the PS3 is set correctly, the optical out would work for audio while video is transferred via HDMI. Sony's comment confuses me.

It is my understanding that if you set the PS-3 to HDMI out for audio that the optical will not work for sound. If your reciever has the HDMI inputs, you may have to enable it on the receiver, I had to with my Yamaha, either setting the input to Auto or HDMI, if you have the input set for component or other, it will not process the HDMI signal. Hope this helps...
