Default Are the 2D blus that come with 3D combo packs...

The same as the 2D only release disc? I thought I read of at aleast one set that had a lesser 2D blu disc included.

I think if both versions of the film are on the same disk there are instances where the picture quality of the 2D version diminishes. I couldn't tell you which titles, but. If there is a 2D stand-alone disk in the 3D combo pack, it should be the same copy as the one in the 2D only pack in all cases.

3D Blu-rays with a 2D version on the same disc are not two seperate encodes. The disc is programmed to either both images at once when 3D is detected or chosen. When 2D is detected or chosen, only one image is played back. This does not affect picture quality unless a different print/master is used for the 3D+2D single combo disc.

To make it easier for consumers and to inflate the retail price, many 3D combo packs have the 3D version on its own seperate disc. The rest of the package is the same as the standard release. The only rub is the 3D disc is not programmed to play back a 2D stream.
