this is just so unbelievably evil and rude... not just of the SOB who posted the ad(s), but of the f**king asstards who took stuff, even after being informed that the ad is/was a hoax.

Even if I read the ad and showed up, if the door was locked then obviously it was a Prank, thats common sense. If the broke into the house then they should be charged.
Now that its known to be a hoax, the right thing to do would be to return the stuff.
As kids we used to call the local Valley Trader and place the "free" pool table ads, they were priceless. We would always state that it was free, and that the person must call after midnight as I worked second shift and was up late. But back then there was no internet

The only reason they probably ignored the guy is they thought he was trying to get rid of them so he could get the best items for himself. Hopefully they find who started the hoax, and force them to sell every item in their house at an auction and give the guy the proceeds. That way they understand what it is to lose everything.

There is something to be said for "an eye for an eye".

Ohio gun laws (compared to Michigan for instance) suck...... but this has gotten way off topic!!!!!!!

Also, when you post on craigslist, you must type in an email address, so if they can track I.P. address, etc.... but if it was a public library and a yahoo account...... I'm guessing someone got off scott-free on this one!

Agreed. Now, can someone point me to the the links here to the downloadable coupons, people bragging about the 8 blu ray McQueens they got by accident and then sold on ebay, and the how-to's of buying cheap Blu's on a BOGO and returning them into a different brick & mortar for credit? I don't like to do a search on the board, I just want someone to tell me.

Any takers should be charged with larceny, and as appropriate, burglary. You'd think people could understand something so simple as verifying the ad in person with the one you think wrote it before waltzing into a yard and leaving with stuff. Or a simple idea like, if he really was giving something away, he'd probly help load it into your car.
