I liked the movie when I saw it as a kid and I liked the songs as well. Would gladly pick it up if it got a Blu-ray release.
Surprised Sony never gave it a Special Edition DVD, being a relatively well liked musical and Best Picture winner. |

the movie is very good, but I personally find the musical numbers bordering on overkill, which was brilliantly parodied by Monty Python: "Every ***** is Sacred" in 'Meaning of Life'
really? that word censored here on blu-ray.com? unreal... |

Well worth buying, if only for Ron Moody who is simply marvellous
Oliver Reed is an exceptionally menacing Bill Sikes, Shani Wallis is a superb Nancy and Jack Wild is very good as Dodger, its weakness is an undistinguished performance from Mark Lester as a weakly written Oliver. |

I think Oliver! is fantastic -- the film won a Special Achievment Oscar for the choreography, and I don't think any other musical film has been so honored. I can see why someone would call it overkill, but it really is something to see.

while I find some of musical numbers a bit over produced I still like the movie and specifically the songs, and Oliver Reed is great (when was he not?). I found it odd, that HDNet Movie's hidef airing didn't have the intermission or outre music cues, two things that ARE on the DVD edition.

I wonder if it will be the same transfer with the German release.
Is it usually? As much as I love TT BLurays, i would prefer the German release because it will be much cheaper, and also it has subtitles in my native language. But if it has much worse quality i may have to think about it.. Last edited by filmmusic; 04-14-2013 at 11:10 AM. |

Surprising that Sony think only 3000 people in the US and Canada will want Oliver! on Blu-Ray
The German version is being released by Sony so expecting it to be the same transfer as the Twilight Zone version. It will probably be released in the UK in about 2-3 years time. The UK is always behind. So German version for me. |

oh and as well all probably know by now, this has been announced as a Twilight Time release later in the year - hooray!! hopefully this will be the full cut of the film as on the DVD and NOT the abbreviated version that aired on HDNet Movies. Last edited by Dubstar; 04-14-2013 at 08:43 PM. |
