Default Switching to Direct TV

Saturday (March 29th) I'm switching from Dish Network to Direct TV. Right now I have the Dish DVR. This gives me one HD TV signal and an SD signal to my plasma in my bedroom. I'm paying about $118/mo.

Saturday I'll have the Direct TV DVR and two additional HD receivers. So I'll finally have all my HD TVs with an HD signal and I'll get more HD channels! The great thing is only going to cost me $64.97 per month!

Out of curiosity, are there any special settings I should be aware of after they come and do the install?

Delete all the SD channels from your favorites list, because you'll never watch them!

Seriously, if you need help, visit the forums at http://www.dbstalk.com/

Yes those guys at dbstalk.com are awesome, very knowledgeable.
As far as hiding SD channels there is an option in the guide to hide all SD channel duplicates. Supposedly four new channels will be added the 31st of March also. Great time to switch.

New Channels

ESPN News HD
Disney Channel HD
Toon Disney HD
ABC Family HD

Direct TV is great. You will love it. DBStalk really is a great website for any info and advice about Direct TV you will need. I learn things all the time about my HR20 and 21. Good Luck and enjoy.

When I lived in Georgia, I had Dish Network for about 6 years. Then I moved back home to Arizona and figured I would try Cox cable. That lasted about one month and I went back to Dish Network. The quality of the picture and variety of channels (that I watch) was much better on Dish.

My brother has HD Cox cable. I had Dish (switching to Direct TV Saturday) and I have many more HD channels than my brother.

I just got done doing a lot of research and discovered Direct TV has more HD channels than Dish Network or any other cable company. Also, the monthly cost is lower. For the next year I'll be paying $60 plus tax to have three TVs hooked up with HD programming from Direct TV. I'll have one HD DVR receiver and two regular HD receivers. So now all three of my HD TVs will actually be receiving an HD signal. After the 12 month promotion, my bill will go up $18. I had to commit to a 24 month contract.

My opinion is Dish Network or Direct TV offers you much more HD programming than any cable TV company. However, you'll want to check to make sure your local channels are available via Direct TV before you decide. You can check this online at Direct TV's web site.

Don't forget that DirecTV just launched a new satellite last week. When it goes live in a few months, they will be able to handle tons more HD content.

Dish Network launched one a few weeks ago.... But it missed the target area it was supposed to be at. Now the HD line up expansion for dish has been delayed for up to 2 years. I would switch over to direct tv now but I am moving in 2-3 months. So I have to wait and see what is avialable in Texas at the time and if the new landlord will allow a dish on his roof.
