Talking Xtempo's Sanctuary from the World

I know my setup isn't great as most others but here is. I think I have it to where I really like my room so here is a thread

As long as you like it, it doesn't matter about others.

I will recommend a little change. The speakers that are right in front of your seat, they should be behind you or next/even to your head, not infront of you.

I need to buy more speaker wire and another pair for the backs to have ultimately 7.1. Even so I didn't have enough speaker wire form them to be behind me so they are stuck there. I used the ones from Monoprice so I probably should buy another roll and redo everything.

Should I even bother with 7.1 since not all movies have that?

I have a 7.1 in my bedroom, and if you could, why not?

As far as having short wire, you can always splice new wire and add to your existing wire to make it longer, instead of running all new wire.

do I use tape or how do I keep the speaker wire together? I was thinking most movies are only 5.1 so does 7.1 even make sense for me. It is a Polk Audio RM60 or something 5.1 so I'm not sure what speakers to get to make it 7.1 any ideas?

HAMP I like your setup

Welcome to the galleries Xtempo,

The cost of the connectors will be about the same as the wire from Monoprice. Also if you have to ask about splicing it is probably better to get the proper length wire. Don't worry about 7.1 until you hear what it sounds like with the speakers in their right location. I like your collection of older media mixed in with a modern HTPC, very nice.

thanks and your setup is nice also.

I suppose I should have made a thread sooner. I keep changing it though.

I'll order some new wire off of Monoprice sometime. About my speaker stands do I get new ones or are those fine?

I wish it was Friday so I finally fix my speakers. Bought a new wire from Monoprice and won't get it until then. Where should I place the speakers? is it okay if there close to my head?

Welcome to the HT threads! You don't have to have a uber setup like the others, I don't have one either. As HAMP said; as long as you like it!

In the pics below, you should move the speakers from the highlighted blue to where the solid blue. Have them pointed right at you, and make sure to re-calibrate after you move them.

It’s hard to tell, but you may have to move your seat over a little bit.

It is going to make it much better to have the proper effects coming from behind you, instead of everything infront.

OK thanks HAMP. my head is right near the speaker then maybe I should move the chair closer to the TV?

Yup!!!

You really wouldn't want the speakers at your ears like a set of headphones, so moving the chair forward would be great.

And besides ....... You get better bass response with the chair off the back wall

We sit 9ft, and look how large my screen is, if it wasn't for a doorway/walkway right infront, I might would sit 8ft or closer...
