Nah, after reading the review I'd rather see Roland Emmerich's own alien-free Independence Day remake (White House Down) than Antoine Fuqua's.

This movie was awesome. It reminded me of one-man-army movies from the 80's, like Missing In Action. The body count was nuts.

While it had some Independence Day vibes in it, it was really much more "Die Hard in the White House." There's no question in my mind that it was made from that script.

I still liked it. Grilled cheese, made well, is still good no matter how many times I've had it.

Surprisingly good movie. Not great but...certainly worth watching once.

Emmerich's should be waaaaay better. I'm looking forward to it.

I really wanted to see this, but I heard it had a lot of really obvious/terrible CGI. Kind of put a damper on my expectations.

May still give it a shot, though.

Yes. The CGI was awful. Thankfully it was towards the beginning, for the most part.

I really like most of the preview and almost all of the actors - and I usually love Fuqua, but ... while the film looks beautifully shot, they leave the explosions (which look like bad CGI) really quickly. Makes you wonder. I'm gonna have to either learn more or wait until it hits HBO-Starz-whatever.

For the people who complain that they no longer make action movie like they did in the '80s and early '90s, watch this and then stop complaining.

Some brilliant one liners in this.

The only bad CGI I noticed was during the prologue,
[Show spoiler]the car crash scene
. Sadly, filmmakers apparently don't know how to shoot
[Show spoiler]car crashes
without the assistance of computers these days. The rest of Olympus looks great IMO.

Disagree. The plane crash was absolutely awful. it's in the trailer.

Bad CGI bothers me, but I guess as long as it's not as bad as Air Force One's
[Show spoiler]plane crash scene
, I can probably live with it.

This is all based on the trailer, so ... The car crash didn't look so bad to me, and the shot of the RPG blowing a hole in the WH wall with the 3 tumbling guys looked good. But : the mini-gun's shots at the White House from the plane; the choppers - both flying around the WH and crashing on the WH roof; and, especially, the horrible plane crash after hitting the Washington monument! These shots give one pause because if they show these in the sales pitch (the trailer), what lurks unseen in the rest of the flick? And, as I said, I like Fuqua. Offhand, I can't recall a single shot in any of his movies which really bothered me before - and that's a lot of gunshots, crashes and explosions.

Why do I get email notices of posts which aren't there? Do folks reconsider & delete them right away? Responding to a vanished post from Sky_Captain : absolutely, my friend, "dismissing (a film) based on the trailer (would be) extremely shortsighted." I wouldn't do that. I'm merely agreeing with what I read as "concerns".

As I said, I like Fuqua (loved Shooter, Tears Of The Sun, Training Day and Replacement Killers) and can't recall a single shot in any of those films which bothered me - which is why some of these shots puzzle me so much. Why do you say that "the CGI was obviously worked on more, after the trailer was released"?

P.S. Wow now a post by IndyMLVC, which was here a minute ago, is gone. WTF!?!

yup ... this year has been THE year for 80's action schtick. Will buy most of these on blu ray to show my support.
