Default Just a quick thought here for BDA to compete with DVD

For future release, could they just release the BD version 2-3 weeks before the DVD version?
Just like how they did with I Am Legend on HD-DVD. It's would be a way of showing that HDDVD is an inferior product. I mean the consumer would be very fast of picking up on the format. Release both versions at the same time will only slow BD transistion down

The BDA doesn't dictate the release dates of titles. The studios do. The studios are not going to release the BD in front of the DVD because the DVD represents 90% of the sales.

At this point, I am happy they are releasing the BD, for the most part, on the same day as the DVD.

Was at BB this weekend to see 2 columns of I am Legend, 1 for DVDs and 1 for blu-ray. Guess what?? Blu-rays were all out while some dvds were left. A good sign.

So they'ere delaying the HDDVD release?? I didnt know that I just firgure they weren't going to release it at all.

THe BDA doesn't need to compete with DVD. The industry controls the flow of DVD and the industry now will control the flow of Blu-ray. Blu-ray is the next generation optical format. It is no longer one of two competing formats. When the industry decides, they will phase out DVD.

This won't happen until Blu-ray nears the tipping point in sales comparison to dvd. I believe the first time this happened with dvd versus VHS on a major title was around 2000 or 2001. Look for the same to happen with Blu-ray around 2010.

This is about competing price wise isn't it? Ask yourself this. How long did it take before DVD started having there prices lowered when VHS was around. Then you'll have your answer
