Fantastic film, well worth catching if you get a chance. I went into this one without knowing much about it having only seen the trailer (which doesn't give much away) and found it to be one of the most gripping, devestating, emotionally-draining and wonderful films I've seen so far this year. By no means a 'big' film (it's very much a domestic British drama) it's nontheless acted superbly with Roth, Kinnear and Eloise Lawrence all being stand-outs. I look forward to seeing this again at home.

Broken Blu-ray REVIEW
![]() I could not agree any more with Buddy Ackerman above. One of the best directorial debuts and certainly one of the best British films I've seen in years. Absolutely superb cast! Pro-B |

This is unfortunately very common. Writers often get blamed when a film is bad but are rarely acknowledged when a film is good, the director getting most of the credit. In fact, when films are good the screenplay is largely what makes them so; and when a film is bad, it's usually because the director/producers have messed with the screenplay. |

Duggie, this is a well deserved criticism.
![]() I should probably point out, however, that I am in fact not familiar with Daniel Clay's novel, which is why I also did not name Mark O'Rowe as I don't know how well it handles the material. The final result, however, is clearly very impressive as I think that this is one of only a couple of recent films where there is no clear division between main and secondary characters, and this allows for a very personal viewing experience. So, yes, I do believe that the film is brilliantly scripted. But your criticism is justified. On a side note, when appropriate I always try to credit cinematographers, composers, and even editors and tech unit folks in our reviews. Thank you for you comments, Duggie, and have a wonderful weekend ![]() Pro-B |

![]() I really do feel that if screenwriters were accorded more respect across the board we might end up with better movies. |
