Japan All About Lily Chou-Chou (2001)

Ever since blu-rays first came out, this has been on my wishlist. You wouldn't believe my surprise when a few weeks ago, I saw this pop up on YesAsia with a release date of 9/15/12.

http://www.yesasia.com/global/all-ab...0-en/info.html

However, since that initial release date, it's availability has never been ready to ship, the cover art is re-used from other DVD releases and I can't find any information on other websites. Does anybody know anything else about this? Specifically, is this legit and does it have English subtitles?

The Iwai titles out this month are legit. Unfortunately, no English subtitles or extras from the DVDs.

Bought this blu-ray and I just wanted to comment the video quality is very nice. I have no regrets despite the lack of English subtitles, there's ways around that

Thanks for sharing the screencaps, they look beautiful!
Did you order from YesAsia? I'm pretty tempted to buy it, but it's a bit expensive, considering I've seen the movie only once and that was six years ago... But I still listen to the soundtrack sometimes...

I got it from cdjapan, normally i wouldn't spend so much on a blu-ray, but i made an exception for this film

HMV Japan has decent pricing on the Iwai blu-rays and shipping took 3 days.

Amazon has them slightly cheaper, but they previously shipped to me w/ DHL and I got dinged for customs charges.

How do you get around the lack of English subtitles.

I had the DVD so I pulled the English subtitles off of it, then used my computer to play the blu-ray using the subtitles from the DVD, streaming it to my TV.

Nice, hope it gets a Korean release as well. Shame about the subs but it's no big deal to me at least.

It's a shame that most Japanese releases never even have English subtitles. I'm still surprised that those Japanese Ozu blu rays had them.

Someone somewhere out there in the ether created a subs patch for the Japanese release. If the Taiwanese release is simply a port (or you can afford the Japanese release) you can purchase that and rip it to your HD then apply the subs patch to create a perfect copy with subs. Either watch on your PC or burn a copy for yourself (which I think may be legal-ish if you purchased the retail disc). Hope I'm not breaking T&Cs by stating this!

You don't necessarily have to rip the disc if you're using a PC. If you're using MPC-HC you only need to drag and drop a subtitle file on the window. I'm sure there are other programs that lets you do the same.

yup that's the simplest way but I know a lot of people like to watch on a dedicated player rather than the PC, in which case the patch, rip & burn method may be the only option.

Alternatively if you have a BD player that's a decent media player (like the Oppo BDP 103) you could use MakeMKV to extract your Blu-ray to mkv then stick it on a USB stick/portable hard drive with a subtitle file in the same directory and your BD player will play it with the subs.
