Default My unreleased slasher wish list

I'm a big slasher fan, and there are still so many unreleased titles out there. I have most of these on VHS, but would love to see them get quality releases.

Mirage (1990) - very hard to find, but more than worth the effort.
Dear Dead Delilah (1972) - bleak southern gothic slash fest, a true gem.
Edge of the Axe (1988) - great Spanish slasher with one of my favorite killer reveals.
The Ghost Dance (1980) - underrated blend of Native American mysticism and slasher horror.
Whodunit [aka Island of Blood] (1982) - tongue in cheek slasher, utterly charming.
Shallow Grave (1987) - intense and overlooked gem. VHS released by Paramount.
House of Death (1982) - atmospheric slasher with a likable cast and stunning final girl.
Innocent Prey (1984) - fun slasher from the director of Long Weekend. PJ Soles actually gets the lead for a change.
Run, Stranger, Run (1973) - somber seaside proto-slasher.
Keep My Grave Open (1976) - Brownrigg's best.
Fatal Games (1984) - an absolute blast, my favorite sports-related slasher.
The Slayer (1982) - eerie little island slasher.
Bloodbeat (1983) - surreal samurai slasher.
Fatal Pulse (1988) - liked this one a lot more than I expected to.
Deadly Lessons (1983) - quality TV whodunit with quite the cast.
Deadly Games (1982) - a real oddity, but interesting. Would love to hear what the director has to say about it.
Blood Hook (1986) - surprisingly enjoyable comedy slasher.
Hanging Heart (1983) - one of the wilder slashers out there.
All-American Murder (1991) - intriguing murder mystery on a college campus.
Rush Week (1989) - more cheesy college slasher shenanigans
Hotline (1982) - solid TV suspense.
Out of the Dark (1988) - stylish De Palma-esque slasher.
Amsterdamned (1988) - Dutch slasher with a better than typical budget.
Demon Warrior (1988) - not as good as The Ghost Dance, but an intriguing Native American slasher all the same.
Terminal Choice (1985) - not a full-blooded slasher, but close enough.
Pandemonium (1982) - my favorite slasher spoof. From the director of Alice, Sweet Alice, oddly enough.
Funeral Home (1980) - I revisited this and loved it the second time around. Now makes my most wanted list easily.
Deadly Manor (1990) - while no match for Edge of the Axe, another enjoyable Larraz slasher.
Next of Kin (1982) - I consider this more of a haunting mood piece than a slasher, but I will include it on the list regardless.
Fantasies (1982) - rare TV slasher with soap stars.
He Lives By Night (1982) - haven't seen this Asian slasher yet. Have always wanted to.
Too Scared to Scream (1985) - more fun than anticipated; a mixture of slasher, giallo and camp.
Terror on Tour (1980) - seems to be mostly despised, but I like it.
Phantom of Death (1988) - after the awful Body Count, Deodato redeems himself with this subsequent stab at the sub-genre.
Blood Link (1982) - one of the better murderous twin flicks. Good work from Moriarty, and a typically pleasant Morricone score.
Blood Theatre
Blood Frenzy
Slipping into Darkness
The House Where Death Lives
Have a Nice Weekend
Terror at Tenkiller
Mongrel
Early Frost

It'd be cool to see Synapse rescue some of these from obscurity like they did with The Dorm that Dripped Blood.

RELEASED

Aerobicide (1987) - one of the best cheese-fests in the genre.
Blood Rage (1987) - terrific twin slasher.
Curtains (1983) - classy Canadian gem.
Headhunter (1988) - South African demon stalks Miami as the lovely Kay Lenz investigates.
The Mutilator (1985) - classic splatter.
To All a Goodnight (1980) - the best of the "killer Santa" flicks.

Last edited by Cujo; 03-29-2017 at 12:27 PM. Reason: Moved titles to "released" section, in process of overdue retooling of list to add others I forgot or have seen since post.

I would love to see the following slasher/horror films on blu ray:

Neon Maniacs - I love the 80's cheese. The battle of the bands; the party in the park; the stalking monsters.
Madman- I love the camp slasher films.
The Final Terror-A great woodland horror movie.
Sleepaway Camp
Just Before Dawn
The Legend of Boggy Creek
Sorority Girls at the Slimeball Bowl a Rama- would be perfect for a double feature from Scream Factory a la Terrorvision/The Video Dead
Hell Night
Trick or Treat

I'm surprised you didn't list Iced (1988)

How about Deadly Intruder (1985)? It's not great but entertaining enough. I like the friends-invited-to-dinner-at-remote-house setting, and the VHS art used to creep me out back in rental days.

I would likely grab Iced too, though the characters are about the most unlikable I've ever seen in a slasher. Despite that, it had it's moments. I saw Deadly Intruder a long time ago. I recall not thinking much of it, but wouldn't mind a revisit.

Anyway, glad to see at least one title (Curtains) on my list coming, and from the very studio I hoped for in my post. I hoped it'd be two for two, but the second title wound up being bland Prom Night. Oh well, hopefully more of these gems get the releases they deserve in the not too distant future.

I recently revisited Funeral Home (1980) and enjoyed it a lot more than I did originally. I mainly decided to give it another watch due to Lesleh Donaldson being one of my favorite scream queens (along with Jill Schoelen and Lisa Langlois). Anyway, I would now add it to my list of unreleased slashers I'd love to see hit Blu.

Two 70's obscurities that I'd also love to see released are Psycho From Texas (1975) and Dear Dead Delilah (1972). The former isn't a full-blooded slasher, but it's pure regional madness of the greatest kind. Right up the alley of Synapse or Grindhouse Releasing. The latter is one of the best proto-slashers out there.

I agree with your assessment of Funeral Home. I really enjoy this film and would love to see Synapse give this film the Curtains and Prom Night treatment. I would also enjoy the following films:

1) The Prey
2) Humongous- I heard the elements are lost so a blu ray would not be possible. I do have and enjoy the DVD though, but I'd love a blu of this film.
3) Alone in the Dark- New Line Cinema's first horror film.
4) New Year's Evil
5) Without Warning
6) Blood Beach
7) Hide and Go Shriek
8) Chopping Mall
9) The Initiation
10) Hell Night

Messaged Synapse about the possibility of a few titles. Their responses:

"Funeral Home would be a cool one, for sure. Not sure what's up with that title, though. If the negative was available, that would be a great one!"

In reference to Innocent Prey:

"I've not seen that one. Next time we speak to our Australian licensors, I'll see what the status is on that one for licensing."

I also brought up a few others from my list, but those were the ones they responded to specifically.

With their deal with Troma, it seems that Vinegar Syndrome would be the best bet for Blood Hook.

Oh man this list could go on and on as there are so many slashers I'd love to see on blu-ray, heck even a nice DVD release for some of them would do but some of the most exciting ones would be (and the REALLY exciting ones are in bold);

Aerobicide [1986]
Blood Frenzy [1987]
Bloodmoon [1989]
Bloody Beach [2000] Not Blood Beach, this is a Korean slasher.
Bloody Reunion [2006] Out on Blu-ray in Taiwan, upscaled of course.
Body Count [1986]
Boogeyman 2 [1983] The original theatrical version, not the awful director's cut.
Camp Fear [1990]
Cheerleader Camp [1987]
Cinderella, The [2011] Thai slasher movie, absolutely awesome.
Clown At Midnight, The [1998]
Coda [1987]
Dead Of Night [1999]
Deadly Camp, The [1999] Hong Kong slasher flick which got a horrible DVD-release, would love to see this in proper quality.
Deadly Intruder, The [1984]
Demon Warrior [1988]
Do You Wanna Know A Secret? [2000] It's not very good but deserves better than the lousy 4:3 DVD it got in the US.
Evil Laugh [1986]
Fatal Games [1983]
Fear 2, The [1998]
Funeral Home [1980]
Geek [1987] Also known as Backwoods, rights are with Echo Bridge so no chance of this happening
Ghost Dance [1980]
Ghostkeeper [1981]
Girls Nite Out [1984]
Goodnight, God Bless [1987]
Graduation Day [1981]
Have A Nice Weekend [1975]
Hell High [1986]
Home For The Holidays [1972] Rights are with echo bridge, wouldn't count on it.
Home Sweet Home [1981]
Honeymoon Horror [1982]
Iced [1988]
Jolly Roger: Massacre At Cutters Cove [2005] HD-master exists.
Junior [1985]
Killer Instinct [2000]
Last Slumber Party [1987]
Lovers Lane [1999]
Moonstalker [1989]
Night Brings Charlie, The [1990]
Night Screams [1987]
Nightmare On The 13th Floor [1990]
Pool, The [2001] HD-master exists.
Prom Night 2-4 [1987-1992] Uncut versions.
Psycho Cop [1988]
Record [2000]
Ripper: Letter From Hell [2001]
Rocktober Blood [1984]
Rush Week [1989]
School's Out [1999]
School's Out 2 [2001]
Shadows Of The Mind [1980]
Shadows Run Black [1981]
Slash [2002]
Slashdance [1989]
Slaughter Night [2006]
Sorority House Massacre 2-3 [1986-1990]
Stay Awake, The [1987]
Terror At Tenkiller [1987]
Terror Night [1987]
Terror On Alcatraz [1987]
Terror On Tour [1980]
Trampa Infernal [1990]
Unhinged [1982]
Wishcraft [2002]

Wow that became quite the list, how depressing, anyway I tried to make it as short as possible plus I didn't include announced releases.

According to a DVD company who looked into releasing these, materials are lost/only VHS masters exists for Honeymoon Horror (1982) and Iced (1988). Whatever is left isn't even good enough for a DVD release.

I was told the rights for The Prey went from Anchor Bay to Image. Anchor Bay was supposed to release The Prey to DVD, but decided not when "fanboys" insisted on the uncut (extended) Asian version.

I would give anything for a Terror At Tenkiller Blu-ray haha. Huge fave of mine.

I'm sure Sony has a decent master for Honeymoon Horror lying around somewhere. As for Iced, yeah I wouldn't be shocked if there are no materials left for this movie. Image is sitting on a lot of slasher flicks now it seems, too bad they won't do anything with them, I believe they also have The Stay Awake and Deadly Dreams for example.

That would be cool. I believe it was Code Red who looked into releasing Honeymoon Horror and told us at a message board a few years ago that the producers/rights owner not have a useable master, except for a 3/4 inch (?) tape/something.

Watched the relatively obscure Return of the Family Man recently. I put off watching this one for a while, as I didn't expect much, but it was a lot more entertaining than I anticipated. I thought it'd be on the level of a Doom Asylum, which I didn't much care for. It's pretty ridiculous and nowhere near a top tier slasher, but I had fun with it and would add it to my lengthy list of slashers that I'd like to see on Blu. I wouldn't throw it on my MOST wanted list, but I would like to see it happen. I'd love to see stuff like Blood Frenzy and Honeymoon Horror hit Blu as well, but I'd also put them on my second tier wish list.

There are so many slashers that will never see a decent release. The one that is my number 1 wish is The a Final Terror. I would love to see a company restore and release this movie.

^ Unfortunately, it seems that Blood Hook may be one of them. On their FB, Vinegar Syndrome said it was problematic and not likely to happen.

I hate to hear the bad news. I hope Vinegar Syndrome releases more slashers besides Graduation Day. Maybe they could rescue The Prey. I heard the reason Anchor Bay never released The Prey was due to bad elements.

I'd love to see them do more slashers too. They've quickly become a top company for quality.

In other news, I read that To All a Goodnight is apparently on Comcast's On Demand section now with a nice transfer. There are annoying ads that cover the screen at certain points, but at least there's a nice transfer out there, which gives hope for an eventual release.

On the topic of upgrades from DVD, I asked Severin on FB if Nightmares might hit Blu, but they said it's unlikely since it wasn't transferred in HD. I would love to see Arrow upgrade The Initiation to Blu some day.

While I consider it more of a slow-burning mood piece than a slasher, I asked Synapse about releasing Next of Kin. They said they'd love to if they could find out who owns the rights.

It slipped my mind previously, but another proto-slasher I'd add to my most wanted list is Run, Stranger, Run. It's a fine little film that I'd love to see get a nice release. Pretty sure Sony has it due to the tape I have.

I watched one of those old ABC Movies of the Week yesterday called Scream, Pretty Peggy (1973). It's a proto-slasher with a Psycho sort of twist and a few creepy moments. I thought it was decent enough.
Those ABC/Universal TV movies were shot on real film. Would be nice to see some of those on Blu-ray.

That's Impact, isn't it?
They show good horror all the time. A couple months back they had Sleepaway Camp 2&3, Night of the Demons, Witchboard, From Beyond, Leviathan, etc.
