Default How important is the Audio with your Video

I was reading in the News section here on the Forum, Warner announces that V for Vendetta will be released in Blu-ray in May. That's great!, then I went on to read that the audio is Dolby Digital 5.1, not any of the advanced audio codecs, like Dolby Tru-HD or dts-HD Master. I was thinking, and what came to mind, was a statement from the movie Apocalypto, where this one native says to another "Almost", your name will be "Almost".

That's exactly how I feel about this release coming in May . . . . "Almost". They "Almost" produced a great product . . . "Almost". Though it states they 'may' have a future release with these audio codecs, I have no intentions on purchasing an "Almost" fully featured Blu-ray Movie. I don't want to purchase the same movie over and over again, until they get the Movie, fully featured!
What's your take on this?. Agree or disagree? Happy with DD 5.1 ? [Jim]

I'm right there with you. Audio is quickly becoming just as important as PQ (movie quality is still #1). I look at ABR's for video and what the audio options are. I just wish the BDA would start pushing the audio advantages of blu-ray in the market. Maybe they don't want to threaten theaters... anyway, Audio is EXTREMELY important to me and would make me think more than once about this as a pickup.

only netflixing it unless they announce uncompressed along with it.

they have all this frigging space on bd-50s and they cant fit uncompressed sound? please...sounds lazy to me. but then again, the audiophile crowd is definitely a minority. look how widespread mp3s are.

I've heard some pretty respectable 640kps sound tracks but they truly don't compare to Uncompressed PCM , Dolby TrueHD or DTSHD. Hopefully the studios will go the extra mile and start to make the high end audio mixes the standard.

To answer your question: When it comes to catalogue releases that I already own on DVD, VERY. New releases should have HD sound anyway, but I won't re-buy any movie that doesn't upgrade the whole experience

Off topic slightly, but V for Vendetta on HD DVD had TrueHD 5.1 so I'd expect the Blu-ray version to offer similar. Why wouldn't they match it? If it really doesn't have it on BD, that's just plain lame...

Sound quality is far more driven by the actual soundtrack & mix than the format used. Yes, it's great we can get TrueHD or PCM at home (why not, if there is space available?), but DTS @ 1.5 Mbps and DD @ 640 Kbps is far from poor at delivering quality audio. Of course, I know the power of specifications and it's influence.

Don't try to speculate what Warner's will do, you'll only give yourself a headache.

For me Sound is every bit as important as PQ! I want the Full HD experience, and not just because I am a HD Spoiled Brat!

I don't think it's been finalized that it will only have the DD track. Doby and Wicky have both said it will have TrueHD, and they're usually pretty reliable.

Audio and video are equally important to me, personally. I'll still buy this with a DD track, but I won't be nearly as enthusiastic about it.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I like to hear the audio track along with viewing the picture.

The only thing i hate about Warner is their HIGH DEF SOUND / HIGH DEF AUDIO. OCean series have than banner, and have DD 5.1. Bonnie & Clyde is the same (tought it's Mono Sound... Loseless Mono would still have been HD SOUND) and now Dirty Harry have the banner....

PQ on Blu-ray is priority #1, period!
AQ, while VERY important, is not why *I* prefer Blu-ray.
It's all about the picture!

What's the point of having a High Resolution screen, if all you are going to feed it is a crappy source?

All the killer audio in the world will not make up for a crap picture.

Agree with all. We will most likely see DD True HD on V. We have seen this sort of thing before when a new title has been announced with unclear audio determination. Expect HD sound.

As V for Vendetta is one of my all time favourite films, I would still wimp out, go against my principles and buy it regardless just for the HD PQ and slightly better DD 5.1 audio on BD. This is going to be awesome!!!
