Default The Office - Season 6 : Damaged Disc... first watch!

Having purchased The Office Season 6, brand new from Best Buy back when it first came out in September of 2010... I never got around to watching it.

With the end of the series coming around, I figured now would be as good of a time as any to get caught up all over again. It was time to start Season 6.

I put the disc into my PS3, just as I have thousands of times before. Then, lots of weird noises. Disc wouldn't read after 3 or 4 minutes. So I ejected it.

Upon further inspection, this is what I saw. Disc 1 of the set.

I then, of course, checked the remaining discs in the set, no damage at all.

My belief is that is has to do with the packaging system used. I was never a fan of it to begin with.

I've emailed Universal Customer Support... I hope I can get this taken care of. My first damaged disc. Has this happened to you or anyone you know before?

I can't tell what the damage on the disc is. Is it that whitish semi circle or is that just a reflection? Or is it that small black mark?

The film has peeled away in the first picture. It's flaking off really bad. I'm almost afraid to touch it at this point. I surely don't want to put it back into the player, for fear it might flake off inside the drive, and wrecking it. The black mark, I suspect, is where the damage originated from.

THIS... is what flaked off. Just found it sitting outside of my PS3.

I'm sure Universal will help you out.

I have season eight and they're double-sided and all the DVD sides are scratched because of those stupid cases. I swear I think they damage themselves just sitting on the shelves. I doubt the case damaged the disc like that it was probably defective before it was put in.

I refuse to buy season 8 for this reason alone. I don't want any flipper discs. WHat upsets me about that is they sell the season 8 on DVD alone, but not on Blu-ray. They combo the Blu's. Weak.

I already contacted them via the second link. I hope they can help... if not, it's gonna cost me to get it replaced... which just feels so wrong.

Looks like the spin coat (scratch protectant) didn't adhere to the disc properly. Since that appears to be a manufacturing issue Universal should replace it free of charge.

I can only hope. I'd rather not pay for something that is their foul up.

Oh, it was opened! In the parking lot!

This was the first time I played it.

Email from Universal said they'd replace it. I should be expecting a pre-paid envelope soon to ship it to them. Should be replace in 2-4 weeks. Thanks for the links you guys supplied me.
