Default Downloaded FW 2.20.Now PS3 wont read discs.Need help

I just got done downloading the new firmware update 2.20.After it was done I played around on the Playstation store, didnt download anything though.Decided to play some Call of Duty 4 with my girlfriend,so I loaded the disc and the main menu came up.I clicked on multiplayer and it wouldnt load it.After a couple of minutes I figured I would try another game. This time it wouldnt even read the disc.I tried putting in a blu-ray,same result, nothing. Can someone please help me out with this,I have no idea whats going on.
Thanks in advance

If the PS3 doesnt read any discs at all I would say the drive is broken.
Contact Sony or try to take it back to the store where you bought it (if that's not too long ago)
May I ask which PS3 you have?

I MUST be really lucky. I have NEVER had any issues after ANY update for the PS3.

Why is it that some people have issue and others do not. The only issue I have is that my roomates PS3 downloads faster than my PS3. I have a 60gb and he has a new 40gb. Mine is closer to the wireless router too.

Have you tried turning the PS3 off and back on? I've had my PS3 act a bit wonky right after an update (slow load times, weird framerates, etc.). Never had it fail to read a disc, however.

A quick reset has always set it right.

I have the 80 gig model.I got it for Christmas.

To answer the other question, yes I shut it completely down and waited a couple of minutes then tryed it again. It didnt help anything.I guess I could give it a couple of hours or so then try it again.I doubt that will do anything though.

Hold the power button for 5 seconds or so until you hear beeps, do this when it's on standby mode. Hopefully it works.

Do you have Ionic Breeze Fan Filter? Maybe your BD Laser is dusty.

Can a firmware update really mess up a PS3? Maybe it's the way people treat them? IDK, but I've had my 60g for over a year now, and I haven't had one problem with it. It seems weird to me that a firmware can cause the system to not read discs.

Just try it, some TV's don't support this feature. Check and see if it's enabled or disabled.

i dont know what that is so,no i dont.i guess it could be dirty but after only 3 months of use.thats ridiculous.

i do take care of my stuff, especially electronics.its in a very well ventilated area (not in an entertainment center).

i didnt think a firmware update could do that either.im thinking its just a coincidence.

What are you going to do then? Do you have a warranty? I don't get it though, if the XMB comes up I don't see why it wouldn't work?

One more, try Restoring the PS3.

It would appear that my drive died last week as well. I also have the 80gb which was purchased in November 2007. I have contacted Sony and a coffin is being sent.

I was told I would be receiving a factory refurbished unit after they receive mine. Anyone have any experience with a factory refurb? Are they as good as new?

It's a new feature. The 'Read A Book' feature!
And firmware updates are typically rough on the system, though they should never break them. It's more likely that there was a problem there already that the update merely brought to the surface.
