I currently have a 42" Aquos Full HD1080p LCD TV that I got for sale @ costco for $1499.99 They shipped my the wrong color It clearly says "elegant new glossy black design" yeah they sent the opaque dark grey one It's UGLY! Now I'm going to return it do you guys think I should exchange it for the 46" BRAVIA™ XBR® LCD Flat Panel HDTVKDL-46XBR3 ? There's a website where they have it for $2700 Shipped do ya'll think the $1000 difference?

I would take the Aquos and the $1000 myself, not because the Bravia is inadequate, but because the new range is out in September, and that $1000 could go a long way to purchasing one of those. Google "Bravia X2550" it is Japan and Europ only for now, but expect a US model to be announced soon.

The main differences are 1080p24@120Hz support, HDMI 1.3, and use of a 10bit panel. If Sony stay true to form, they will heavily discount the current model and intro this at the previous price so you should find it for about $3000 in November, or you could wait for Black Friday and get the XBR3 for about half price as the new XBR4(?) will be out by then. |

The overseas-spec BRAVIA X series for Europe and Asia are built in Japan 100% (unlike your XBR 2 & 3 which is made in Mexico = lower quality). So unless you're from Europe or in Asia, don't bother buying the BRAVIA X. You'd be better of with the flagship Aquos 1080p (the ones with 4ms response time) as those are STILL 100% JAPAN MADE. |

Buying this kind of CE good online might not be the best idea as they source their stuff from the grey market and Sony don't have an official support stance on that, if I was going to spend $3k on a TV, I would spend it in BB or a another B&M.

Assuming the buyer is from North America, I don't recommend this.
Remember, you're not getting the fullest quality of BRAVIA X series sets which are 100% MADE IN JAPAN. We in Europe and Asia get this Sony TV straight from Japan (unlike the NA market which gets theirs from Mexico). So in this case, you'd be better off with the high-end Aquos 1080p (which is still assembled at Sharp's Kanagawa LCD facility in Japan). |

I am from the US and live in Asia, and have seen all of these tvs made in Japan, Mexico, etc...
It is a no brainer, Sony is better. I tried to convince myself to buy a sharp, but the Sony picture is undeniably better, no matter which continent you buy it from. Matter of fact I just watched a blu-ray on a Japanese high end Sharp, and it was repulsive compared to the Sony. Of course everyone has they're opions, but this is my two cents. Only trying to help, and not trying to offend anyone else's preference. |

Go with sony. Even is the TV is made in Mexico it does not mean that Sony is giving u cheaper grade product. All they are doing is reducing their manufacturing cost to stay competitive. Labor in Mexico and most of Asia is cheap so if japan falls in Asia it does not mean that engineers are assembling the sets.
So as long as sony is using genuine parts and giving u a warranty go with sony. Also USA and EU are sony's main target markets and therefore I am sure SOny wont compromise on QUALITY ![]() |

However, I still don't trust 1080p TVs that are made outside of "source-origin" countries such as Japan or Korea. Maybe for WXGA sets, then it's okay. But for 1080p flagship TVs (which are supposed to be of highest quality possible), I still don't trust those made outside. For example... Sony has a plant in Malaysia (I think thirty kilometers outside Johor Bahru) where they make BRAVIA TVs (S series and V series gen 2). But after hearing rumors that X series TV sets may be made there just made me disappointed. Another example is by Samsung. Instead of their flagship 1080p TV sets being made in Korea, I looked at the back of the set and it said......."MADE IN THAILAND". If these are 720p/1080i sets, sure I don't mind and I may buy these in a heartbeat....but for 1080p flagship TVs, no thanks. It's disheartening really. If you are really looking for 1080p, I'd still suggest that you go straight with the source. Judging that you are from the US, you are still in luck. Sharp has one line where their 1080p flagships are still made in Japan (D92 line I think). If I were you, I'd go for that. |

If it was my decision, I would have to ask myself what exactly will be it's main use in my home. If it is mainly for watching Blu-ray movies, I would go with the Sharp Aquos, because you don't need proper video filtering and scalers which costs extra money for a manufactuer to provide (the Blu-ray player will do most of the work for a great picture). The Aquos refresh time is twice as fast as the Sony XBR. That means less motion blur.
In any other situation I would chose the Sony XBR. |

The XBR has some of the fastest response time out there. Refresh really doesn't mean alot if the source is 24 or 30fps (59.97 Hz). Besides, one could argue that the Aquos isn't nearly as "sharp" so the blurriness of the set is a factor. |

![]() As for the OP, why go with an LCD panel since for the same amount of money, or less, you could go with a 60" SXRD? fuad |
