That's one I was going to try and watch before I post my list, glad to hear a solid recommendation for it.

I thought it would be interesting to do something like this for each decade (maybe one a month?), I hope Abdrewes is planning to continue it after this one finishes.

I adore Der Letzte Mann, hopefully MoC will upgrade it to blu.

I'm going to have to give Gold Rush a re-watch wasn't a fan of it when I saw it.

Here's a top 10. I've seen more than 20 from this decade (barely), but I feel that a list that includes almost every film I've seen from the decade would be less meaningful. I'll thus hold it to 10.

1. Metropolis
2. The Phantom Carriage
3. Underworld
4. Haxan
5. The Passion of Joan of Arc
6. Nosferatu
7. The Lodger
8. The General
9. Waxworks
10. The Gold Rush

I really need to see Greed, Die Niebelungen, and the Luis Brunel stuff.

Suggestion Abdrewes: might you consider opening up pre-1920 - nominally, 1910s - films onto this ballot? The two decades meld strongly, particularly when you consider the modern feature film was only birthed widescale well after the halfpoint of the decade with Cabiria [Italy] and The Birth of a Nation.

(Plus, it'd give me the chance to put the Griffith films I've seen - and would rank - on my list).

LIST TO COME...

Cinemach, I definitely see the argument, and even considered this at first. After all, between 1914 and 1927 enormous leaps and bounds were made: the first modern films in the epics of DW Griffith to the introduction of sound

But my main reason is this: I plan on seeing atleast 20 from the '10's eventually, so the list will be made.

So far, this is how it goes:
The Birth of a Nation (1915)
Les Vampires (1915)
Intolerance (1916)
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1919)
Broken Blossoms (1919)

While there's not much from the teens on Blu-ray yet, there's really quite a bit on DVD (if you include DVD-R), and lots of screenings at various classic film festivals and series around the country. It's again very hard to limit it to just 20 notable feature-length films from the 1910s. Cecil B. DeMille made over 40 features from 1914-1919, over a dozen of those in 1915 alone! And Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford each had lots of features and much of their best work in the 1910s, not to mention a few other memorable D. W. Griffith titles and most of William S. Hart's best films. Then there are the great European features of the teens of Gance, Sjostrom, Lubitsch, and others. Yes, there are more than enough films from the teens to whittle down to a top 20.

Awesome topic and great lists by everyone who has contributed. Here are a few of mine. I will add more if I can think of them.

Docks of New York (1928): Bancroft!

Underworld (1927) Bancroft!

The Last Laugh (1924) Probably my favorite from this decade.

Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans ( 1927)

The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928) Dryer, one of my all-time favorite directors.

Strike (1925)

Cool. Was really just checking for the greater benefit of participant ballots.

Yeah, I'm not sure I could do a legit top 20 for the 1910s either, but as Blu Velvet concludes it is definitely possible. To a greater extent than even the 1920s, though, I am familiar with most of the decade's output academically; much more pictures of the era are available now but in too many cases the home video presentations are found wanting. Youtube is great for a good deal of them, but the quality there can be even worse (which is why, for me, it's best for the shorts).

This is a woefully lesser explored decade for me and I actually own a number of 1920s titles that I need to see when I have the opportunity.

As for now, here's what I'll put:

1.) Pandora's Box
2.) Diary Of A Lost Girl
3.) Nosferatu
4.) Metropolis
5.) The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari (I thought it was 1919, but seems to show as 1920 a lot of places)
6.) The General
7.) The Passion Of Joan Of Arc
