The Place Beyond the Pines Blu-ray PRE-ORDER

StudioCanal have revealed that they are planning to bring to Blu-ray Derek Cianfrance's latest film The Place Beyond the Pines, (2012), starring Ryan Gosling (Drive), Bradley Cooper (Limitless), Eva Mendes (Holy Motors), and Ray Liotta (GoodFellas). The preliminary release date set by the studio is August 5th.

SYNOPSIS: A motorcycle stunt rider turns to robbing banks as a way to provide for his lover and their newborn child. The stakes rise as Luke is put on a collision course with an ambitious police officer, Avery Cross, looking to quickly move up the ranks in a police department riddled with corruption. The sweeping drama unfolds over fifteen years as the past haunts the present day lives of their sons, two high school boys wrestling with the legacy they've inherited but know nothing about.

its out of stock cause apparently the steelbook has been pulled. you wont find it for pre order on any sites now

I thought this was just a rumour for now? I hope it's not true as this is the steelbook I am most looking forward to

Wouldn't recommend a straight blind-buy, try and watch it first if you can. If you didn't like the director's previous film, Blue Valentine, then you might have trouble with this but then again you might not. Reminded me of films like The Deer Hunter in how it dealt with relationships, but is more to do with family, patriarchy and legacy. A lot of people think this will be Gosling-focused but I felt Cooper's character was much more interesting, though both are integral to the plot.

Just an automated message. Really sucks that after being disappointed about the build quality of Django Unchained and cancelling that, the only pre-order I had to look forward to was this and now it's been cancelled by StudioCanal. Fingers crossed they have sense to go with an exclusive - probably Zavvi or maybe even HMV - on this one and I will be there day one. We never get double-play anymore either, and that's a great bonus (much prefer it to digital copy that I will never watch). Seen they did the same to Evil Dead which is a shame but I'm not that bothered about that one. It was this film I wanted as a steelbook.

Why is it StudioCanal are cancelling new release steelbooks and releasing back catalogue releases as steelbooks instead? I would much rather trade up Pines over their upcoming Kill Bill double-pack any day.

Kill Bill Steelbook is a Zavvi exclusive so they take the risk and have bought all the stock.

For a general release new title Studio Canal are at risk, as they must weight up extra cost of Steelbook v what extra they can charge and how many extra sales it gives them.

Is why there are very few general release steelbooks pretty much only Universal do them apart from those back catalogue waves from Warner and Fox. Companies like Eureka stopped them as not worth the risk reward.

Hence most steelbooks anywhere in the world are retailer exclusives.
